A typical school day for Travis is a little like this.
7:30 am - Meet Sal by his locker
7:45 am - Chemistry
8:30 am - English
9:15 am - Gym (with Sal and Todd)
10:00 am - Art
10:45 am - History
11:30 am - Math (with Sal)
12:15 pm - Lunch (with Sal and his friends)
1:00 pm - Psychology
1:45 pm - Spanish II
2:30 pm - School finishes
The school day was just like every other so why did it feel so long? Travis then remembers.
'Oh right. Today's that Halloween party.'
The second Travis got home from school, he went to his room and searched for an outfit. It felt nice to walk into his house and not shrink in fear. His dad was out on a business trip so he would be gone for the week. His mom worked so Travis was unsure if he would see her tonight. He searches through his closet and glances at the clock. 2:53 pm. Sal, Todd and Larry were going to pick him up then Ash. He was getting picked up around 6 pm so he had awhile, but he wanted to at least pick out his outfit. Travis settles on an over-sized purple sweater with a pair of jeans. Travis walks over to his desk after placing the outfit on his bed. He tries to do his homework but his mind races. It runs to his classmate that is currently hosting the party. What is he like anyways? His mind wanders to Sal's friends. Larry, Ash, and Todd. He remembers when him and Sal started being friends. Travis remembers how protective Larry was whenever Travis would come over to watch movies with them. There use to be a suffocating silence but Sal would always somehow make it less awkward. Eventually, the two got along. Todd was actually really easy to get along with. Travis would ask him for help on homework and he would be able to explain everything. Ash actually talked to him first when she noticed that he started spending time with Sal. Travis was then invited at the lunch table and it made him felt like he actually belonged somewhere. It was a nice feeling. His old lunch table didn't notice he was gone. Travis doubts they cared. He begins to think of Sal.
Where does he even begin?
He's everything. Travis grimaces at how cheesy that was, but it's the truth. He reflects about how even when he would trip him in the halls, Sal would still ask him what's wrong when he started crying in the hallways, to which he would always give a snarky remark and tell Sal to leave him alone. He remembers falling once in gym and scraping his knee on the track. Sal tried to help him up but he just pushed him away. Travis pushes back tears as he stares at his math homework. He thinks of how compassionate and caring he is towards him and everyone else. An idea hits Travis and he runs to his closet that has a box of art supplies with a blank sheet of paper. He puts his homework away. It's Friday anyways, he can do his homework tomorrow.
