"I know these aren't yours, Travis."

His father's voice cut through his skin, causing goosebumps to form. He refused to look at his father out of fear of what he would see.

"Look at me, Travis Phelps."

Travis forced himself to make eye contact with his father. All he would see was hate in his father's eyes. It filled him with dread. His entire body tensed up and tears would threaten to fall from his eyes, but he knew better than to cry in front of his father.

"M-My friend came over to help me w-with my homework, sir..."

He clutched his fist and he was greeted by a punch in his eye. Travis flinched in pain and it happened.

He ran upstairs and he heard his father's heavy footsteps race after him. He was screaming slurs, threats, and insults at him. Travis ran into his room and closed the door behind him, locking it. His dad's roars became deafening and his entire body trembled.

He's going to get it now.

He's going to get it now.

He's going to get it now.

Travis opened his medicine box that sat at his table and violently trembled as he took out his two orange pill bottles of zoloft, 100 mg.

Just as Travis fumbled with the cap, the door broke.
