Sal showed up at the hospital every day. He would hold Travis' cold hand and read to him out loud. He was unsure of whether or not he could hear him but he would read to him anyways. Sal was able to spend a night in the hospital on the weekend. He fell asleep on the uncomfortable couch and the sound of the eerie heart monitor didn't help Sal sleep. Sal noticed that over time people would fill Travis' hospital room with flowers. The flowers ranged from tulips to roses. Sal brought flowers too. He brought Travis' favorite, the forget me not. He ran into some people who were visiting Travis. He ran into Neil, Travis' mom, and kids from school. However, Travis' dad didn't show up.

Travis didn't wake up until a week after he was emitted into the hospital. He woke up and the first thing he did was throw up. The nurses were alerted immediately. Travis felt like shit once he woke up. He didn't know what happened to him, all he knew is that he felt like garbage. The memories of what lead him to be emitted to the hospital were blurry and the first person he asked for was Sal. The nurses gave him a small, weak smile and said,

"I'm 100% sure you will see him today."

Travis looked around. It was dark outside and yet the light that was turned on a couple of minutes ago gave Travis a headache. Travis glanced at the time. 2:39 am.

Travis' mom was the first person alerted of Travis' recovery. She was still working and wouldn't have gotten off work until 6 am, but she took the rest of the day off to visit Travis.

Sal could barely remember what happened that school day. He remembers not believing everyone when they told him Travis was awake. Word got around fast and Sal was able to convince Larry to leave school early to visit Travis with him. Throughout the entire car ride, Sal kept on fidgeting. He already cried once when he heard that Travis woke up. He promised that he wouldn't cry on the trip to the hospital, but he quickly broke that promise when he called the hospital to ask if Travis Phelps was awake. The second she said yes Sal found himself crying. He was so relieved his Travis was awake and okay.
