As expected, Sal showed up at the hospital everyday to visit Travis. It wasn't easy for Sal. Being in a hospital dug up memories he wished would stay buried. It hurt seeing Travis the way he was, but nonetheless, he still visited Travis right after school until the visiting times ended. Sal saw Travis' mom once or twice and the two exchanged polite hellos and greetings. Once in awhile, Larry tagged along with Sal to visit Travis. The visits with Sal and Travis usually ended up with watching tv,  talking about what they're going to do when Travis got out, drawing, writing, Travis helping Sal out with homework, napping, and playing cards. During one visit, Sal even managed to sneak in Gizmo through his backpack. Sal barely got away with it too.

It was one in the afternoon when a polite nurse came in with a folder of papers. Sal fell asleep on the couch next to Travis' hospital bed and so Travis greeted the nurse quietly so he would disturb Sal's rest.

"Hello, Travis, these are your discharge papers. You've been here for almost a month, can you believe it?"

Travis' eyes widened as he looked at the papers. The fact that he was getting out took some time to process. He hadn't been outside for almost a month, he hasn't been home for almost a month, he hasn't been to school in almost a month. To Travis, it felt so much longer than almost a month. It felt like a year. He wishes he was over exaggerating, but there really isn't much to do when your stuck on a hospital bed for most of the time. At least, Sal made it more bearable.

Travis eagerly began to fill out his discharge papers. God, was he ready to get out of here.

But then he thought about going back home to his dad.

And suddenly, he felt a pit in his stomach that he hasn't felt in awhile.

Hopefully, Sal wouldn't mind if he stayed at his house for a week until he found out it was safe to go home.
