It's been two months since we found the end of the prophecy. Two months since we discovered what was on the other side of the cliffs. Two months since we learned that Zillah was to be married to someone she barely knew.
So I stood here in front of my mirror, waiting in anticipation. My off-the-shoulder, lacy grey dress was the only thing holding me together today.
For today we were running away.
Zillah from her wedding, Jasper from his life and rest of us from confinement. We were going to do something today. We were going to bring the end to the horrors in the galaxy.
Zillah had been contacting the Collectors, in a way that made it impossible for them to track our location. We'd set up a meeting, for the Collectors said they had a deal to offer. A deal we had no intentions of making, but we couldn't pass up the opportunity to come face to face with them.
However I couldn't think about that, not yet. First, we had to get off this planet.
"Cate, everyone's ready." Andrea poked her head into my room, her blue sparking dress reminding me of the ocean. The one thing I would miss about this place.
"Right." I wanted desperately to pull my hair up into a ponytail, but I let the curled strands drape across my shoulders.
Outside the others stood in a line, waiting. Max, Torryn and Jasper in their dark black suits. Jasper disguised in a human form, the one which was easiest to hold. The one we'd seen the first day we met. Estelle stood beside her brother, her long flowing dress an ombré of pink and purple.
We were ready for the wedding. The escape.
I could feel the knife and gun strapped to my legs, hidden beneath my dress. I doubted I'd need them, for my fire would be enough if things turned ugly. I noticed Andrea was prepared, her sparkling dress was studded with metal bits.
"Who's ready to run away with the bride?" Jasper announced, a chorus of shushes firing at him. "Alright! Sorry."
"A guard is downstairs, waiting to escort us." Max announced and we all ran through the plan one last time before descending down the stairs.
Everything felt like it was in slow motion as our small group walked. My heart the base of an intense background music. Already I could feel heat at my fingertips, a comforting feeling I used to despise.
With a simple nod, the guard lead us out, eyeing Jasper suspiciously. It's been difficult sneaking him in. But we continued he's been with us since the beginning, but just liked to stay inside. It wasn't a good lie, but with Zillah on our side, it worked.
We hopped onto a transport that was heading down to the beach, luckily Zillah had gotten to choose the location of the wedding. A spaceship was hidden nearby, tucked away into the large rocks of the cliffs.
