I had to admit, it was nice to be out of the medical room. I couldn't stand listening to the things Zillah was saying, knowing it was because of the drugs Andrea gave her, but also knowing what she was saying was true. She was taught to hate Jasper, and part of her would always be weary of him.

However, even though I was glad to be out, watching over Nicholas wouldn't be my choice of a relaxing activity.

"I sure did a number on this rust bucket." Nicholas laughed from where he was tinkering with a screen on the wall. That laugh still haunted me in my dreams, it made my skin crawl.

We don't trust him.

"Me neither." I sighed, agreeing with Kaleo for once.

"What?" Nicholas looked back over his shoulder at me and I just shook my head, waving him off. I wasn't in the mood to explain Kaleo to him.

Kill him.

"No." I snapped, surprised at Kaleo's sudden anger.

"What's it like?" I looked up to see Nicholas walking towards me. Without thinking my body moved into a defensive position.

"What's what like?" I felt Kaleo rising to the top of my skin and my vision flickered blue.

"Pretending that you're not a monster, acting like you can blame all your bad choices on that thing in your head." He smirked at my shocked expression, "I know you can control it, but you don't want to, do you? You like it. You like the power it holds."

"That's not true." Although I wanted to wrap an invisible hand around his neck, to make his skin bubble and burn, he'd never feel it.

"Don't be ashamed, I know what it feels like. I can help you." He was too close to me, I was on the verge of ripping his head off his shoulders. Nicholas used to be taller then me, I loved being able to look down on him now. "I'm like you. I was born in the dark, and you were corrupted by it. Shadows run through your veins, you can't deny that any longer."

"Just because you don't feel anything doesn't mean I can't hurt you, get back to work." I pushed his shoulder, making him take a step back.

"Alright, Freckles, no need to get so angry." He started to turn away, "you're only proving my point."

"You want me to really prove your point?" It came out as a growl and I knew what was coming next. My vision darkened and Nicholas's smile became sicker.

"Max." I heard a voice snap from behind, startling me from my anger and allowing me to take the controls back from Kaleo.

No.

Kill him.

"We leave you two alone for five minutes." Cate slowly walked down the short flight of stairs to where we stood.
