Chapter 3: Their Paradise

Beverly Canyin breathes into the phone with frustration. Why wouldn't Amanda discuss the incident with her?
Amanda Whitehurst and Beverly had been friends since grade school. She remembers playing on the grounds of the Catholic elementary they both attended. As they entered their Highschool years Amanda found a newly found popularity and met her soon to be boyfriend Jeff Whitehurst.

Jeff was from the West side of town and rarely did such prestige talk to Amanda's type. The only reason why Amanda was even attending the highly regarded private school was because she was granted a scholarship. Her family lived off welfare and she had go by her own outfits by babysitting on the weekends. As soon as she turned eleven Amanda's mother made her sit for kids in the neighborhood to make ends meet. She was lucky if she got a outfit for Christmas.
So whenever Jeff came into Amanda's life, it was like a godsend. In her eyes Jeff was the Holy Grail. Though Beverly knew that Jeff was in it for all the wrong reasons. She knew how fragile Amanda was and didn't want some asshat ruining her. Though she tried convincing Amanda to leave him she wouldn't listen, and in the spring of that year she fell pregnant.
The Whitehurst were enraged when they heard about Amanda's baby. They threatened Jeff if he didn't marry her he would cut him out of their wills. It was bad enough he had sex before marriage, but if he were not marry here after she gave birth their reputation would be ruined. So both Amanda and Jeff dropped out of school and married at the end of 57'.

Beverly guessed it just wasn't meant to be, because only four years later they lost the baby to measles. Amanda was inconsolable. She mourned for weeks on end and fell into a dark depression. Jeff brought her out of it though, and through therapy and medication she got better. They were the All American couple and lived the fairytale life. Jeff got a job at an accounting firm and soon found himself the general manager. To keep herself busy, Amanda worked at a insurance company. She said it helped to keep her mind off things.

After the got enough money they moved into a nice suburb and purchased one of the nightest contemporary modern homes on the market. Jeff drove the coolest Hummer a guy could get and were so happy, and through their traumas learned to love each other even more.

That was all until the incident.
