"I can't believe she's back with this dude!" Mateo vented to his mother.
He knew he couldn't go to Xavier, he'd been trash with all advice and venting sessions lately. Catalina chuckled as she washed dishes and her son stood by her with his back leaning on the counter.
"Why? You're with Sofia, she's not allowed to fix her problems with her man too?"
"No, I mean yes. But I fought this dude ma. She can't be with him and have my child."
She turned off the water and proceeded to wipe her hands as she looked up at her son. "It sounds like the two of you will have to learn to coexist."
"I don't even understand why she wants to be with him!"
"Because you don't know their relationship Mateo."
He shook his head, he was livid. He didn't want Jessica with him. "I don't like him and if anything happens to my son then I'll really have to whoop his ass."
She gave him a look for his language. "Sorry." He mumbled as he stood in thought.
"Are you sure you're just not jealous?" She questioned as she moved on to wiping down her counters.
He looked at his mother like she was crazy before moving to get out of her. "No. I don't even look at Jessica like that, this is strictly coparenting at its finest. I just don't trust him."
She stopped as she turned and looked at him, "you don't look at her like that but you made a baby with her? Niños locos." She shook her head and went back to wiping her counters.
He chuckled. "I mean of course I think she's attractive, but I don't look at her like that mama. We both have our own relationships and our own stuff going on."
"Yet your complaining about the relationship that she's in."
"Because of who it is not because she's in a relationship."
"So if it was someone else you would be fine?" She questioned as she put down the cloth she was using to wipe down the counters.
"Yeah, as long as it's someone decent."
"See that as long as is indicating that's not true to me hijo," she pointed.
"We have a child. I don't just want her with anybody."
"What if she doesn't like Sofia?"
"Huh?" He questioned on in confusion. She repeated herself. "Exactly what I said, what if she doesn't like Sofia? Does that mean you should end things with her?"
"That's different mama."
"It's not different hijo. You may be right, I don't know this guy. But the two of you clearly got off on the wrong foot. She was his girlfriend and he just found out you got her pregnant. That's not easy for anyone to take in. You probably would have reacted the same way if it was Sofia broken up or not."
He didn't think about the roles being reversed, making him realize she had a valid point. But truth be told he didn't want to like Dwayne. He shook his head. "I guess."
She chuckled. "Give him another chance hijo. Regardless of the matter, you and Jessica will always have a son to raise. So even if you can't find it in you to be cool. You are going to have to be cordial."
He knew she was right, but deep down he was hoping things didn't work out with Dwayne and Jessica.
