“Harry, wait! We have to think about this rationally!” Liam yelled as Harry ran down the stairs of their apartment building.
“I can’t think right now, Liam! I have to find him!”
“At least let us come with you!” Harry ignored him and hopped in his car. He sped through the empty streets of Acton and hoped he wouldn’t be caught by a bored police officer. Worry began to sink in and Harry frantically tried to call his best friend. Louis! Louis! Where are you?!
You honestly think we haven’t tried that yet? Zayn thought sarcastically to him.
Shut up, Zayn! Harry kept trying to think of where Louis could be. Really, the only places they would go to were school, their flat, the only club in town, and the park. The park! He and Harry went there to think all the time. If Louis was upset, he would surely be there. Harry arrived in no time and jogged to their familiar grassy spot under a single tree. There, Louis was laying down staring up at the night sky. A wave of relief washed over Harry as he made his way over to him.
“It’s nice isn’t it?” He said suddenly. Harry laid down next to him and nodded. “I knew you’d know where to find me. I’m surprised the other boys didn’t figure it out.”
“Well this is our spot after all. I’m not that surprised.”
Louis smiled and ran his hand through Harry’s curls, “My clever Hazza.” Harry smiled at the nickname Louis had given him. He had missed hearing it. “I didn’t think you’d want to come find me.”
“You can thank Lizzy. She’s the one who practically forced me to come see you,” Harry chuckled. “You know, the lads were worried sick.”
And you weren’t?”
“Not really. You’re a big boy. You can take care of yourself,” Harry shrugged. “How long were you gone?”
“A couple of hours.”
“A couple of hours!? They made it seem like you’d been gone for days!”
Louis started laughing. “You know how they overreact, especially Liam. Don’t be so surprised.” The two laid in silence as they stared at the stars. “Harry….I’m so-“
“Don’t apologize, Lou. You don’t have to,” Harry cut him off and turned his head to look at him. His usual bright blue eyes filled with happiness and mischief were sad and lonely. He looked older and tired. Harry guessed he hadn’t fed in a while.
“But I want to. I was a complete jerk. I can tell you really like her and I-“
“Seriously, don’t. I’m over it. I just want my friend back, honestly,” Harry smiled genuinely at Louis for the first time in weeks and Louis returned it.
“So all is forgiven?” Louis smirked hopefully.
“Yup. But I’m kinda curious about something, though.”
“No,” Louis frowned and returned his gaze back at the sky.
“What?” Harry said in disbelief. “You don’t even know what I was gonna say!”
“Yes I do, and I’m not gonna tell you why I didn’t want you and Lizzy to be friends.” So he did know. Well of course he did, he could read minds. But why wouldn’t he tell Harry? “Because If I do, you’ll be mad at me and yourself and you’ll freak out and do something stupid. I
know you Harry.”
“Well now you have to tell me or I’ll be mad for other reasons. Tell me, Louis. You have to,” Harry begged.
“Dammit, Harry! I can’t! It’ll hurt you and I can’t see you go through that kind of pain again! I won’t!” Louis yelled as he stood up and glared down at the younger boy.
“Again? What the hell are you talking about?” Harry stood up as well and gave Louis a confused look.
“Harry, no,” Louis’ eyes began to water. Harry had never seen this side of his friend. He looked seriously gutted by whatever it was the he was hiding from him. He had to know what it was.
“Louis, listen to me,” He said as he placed his hand on his friend’s shoulders. “ You need to tell me what you’re hiding from me. A long time ago we promised no secrets. Right?” Louis pulled away from his grasp and sunk down into the grass as he buried his head in his hands.
“Fine,” he whispered. “Remember when I turned you?”
“Yeah, it was the early 90s, right? Back in London when I ran away from the boarding school my mum sent me to. I was the first one of us you turned.” Where was he going with this?
Louis nodded, “You were the first one so I didn’t exactly know what I was doing. I was still fairly new at it myself so I didn’t know how to teach you right from wrong. You were like a new born baby but with fangs and instead of milk you needed….”
“Blood.”
“Right….Well you got mad at me one day because you hadn’t fed yet and I was forcing you to stay at our hideout so you ran away. I ran after you but when I found you it was too late. Before that day I had only let you feed on criminals, people nobody would miss, but we can’t really tell the difference when we’re as hungry as you were at that time. When I found you…..you were feeding on a woman who I later found out was an American on vacation with her family. You killed her, Harry. She had a husband, a son, and a young daughter named……”
No, no, please don’t say it. Harry was shaking now. He knew what Louis was getting at, but he didn’t want to believe it.
Harry, the daughter’s name was-
“NO, LOUIS! Don’t say it!” He begged as he fell to the ground. He began sobbing.
“You killed Lizzy’s mum, Harry. That’s why you’re drawn to her and that’s why I didn’t want you to be around her. I knew that you’d eventually remember what I tried so hard to make you forget all these years. When you regained your consciousness, you were devastated. You couldn’t believe you had done such a horrid thing and for the longest time you kept beating yourself up about it. I pushed the memory out of your head so you wouldn’t feel guilty anymore.”
“She looks just like her,” Harry sobbed into the grass as the memory flooded back into his mind. Her long silky brown hair. Her beautiful pale face. Her empty brown eyes staring up at him after he had drained her.
“I know, Haz. That’s how I knew who she was.”
“I killed her mum, Louis. I killed my girlfriend’s mum!”A/N: omg guys i love you all for the sweet comments! xD I updated just for you(; haha
