“Niall? What does this Samuel guy want with Niall?” Lizzy asked the group during their lunch break.
“Who knows?” Zayn sighed. “But I’m sure it’s not to meet for a cup of tea.”
“Niall, how are you taking all this? You haven’t said a thing since Louis told us,” Liam asked. LIzzy quickly noted that Liam was right. The usually happy, bubbly Irish boy was slouching in his seat and remaining silent. The most shocking thing was that his plate of Lasagna was untouched.
He shrugged and continued to stare at his Iced Tea.
“Nialler, none of this is your fault,” Liam placed a hand on the younger boys shoulder.
“Yeah, Samuel is probably just some crazy pedophile that wants you to be his little vampire lover. He can’t be that bad, we can take him,” Harry smiled and the whole group shot him a glare. “What? I’m just trying to lighten the mood. Louis’ usually the one to do it, but seeing as how he took off the second we asked for an explanation...” The group fell silent once again. The only thing keeping Lizzy from going insane from the silence was the roaring of the cafeteria, which ceased suddenly when two beautiful girls waltzed in through the double doors. Lizzy could tell that all eyes were on them and Amy knew it. Lizzy saw all the boys tense up as Amy made her way towards their table, with Makayla following in stow.
“Hey, guys!” She smiled brightly.
“What do you want, Amy?” Zayn growled.
“Mind if we sit with you five? Makayla and I don’t quite..... ‘fit in’ anywhere else,” she smirked.
“Yeah, actually, we do mind. I’m sure you can use mind cumplusion on those cheerleaders over there, or flirt with some more football players to find a seat, but stay away from us,” Liam stood up and glared down at the girl.
She chuckled darkly before shaking her head, “Now I know you don’t want that, LiLi. I happen to know that you want me to be as close to you as possible.” She stepped closer to Liam and ran a hand down his chest before batting her eyelashes up at him. Lizzy could’ve barfed at the scene. Liam grabbed her wrist and flung it off of him harshly before storming out of the cafeteria and never looking back. Amy made a mock pouty face at the group, “Was it something I said?”

Niall was confused....and scared....and hurt. Things that irish boy was definitely not used to feeling. He was so used to being happy and relaxed, but finding out that he was the reason that Amy and Makayla were in town was beating him up inside. He was the reason why his friend’s were in danger, he was the reason why Liam was constantly on edge recently, he was the reason why Louis had momentarily stopped talking to the group, but most importantly, he was the reason why they might have to leave the only place that they’ve ever truly considered home.
He ripped off a leaf of the tree he’d been sitting under in the school’s courtyard and threw it on the ground. Why did this have to happen? Who the hell was Samuel?
“Somebody that you don’t want to mess with,” a soft girl’s voice said from behind him. He spun himself around quickly and looked up at a shy looking girl with her hair covering her face.
“Makayla? Where’s your owner?” He asked harshly. “She let you off the leash?”
“Ha ha. You’re so funny Niall,” she said sarcastically with a glare. “And Amy doesn’t own me, or tell me what to do. I choose to follow her around. She’s my best friend. She takes care of me. I don’t know what I’d do without her.” She sat down next to Niall and began playing with a blade of grass.
“Oh, I don’t know, maybe be a good vampire?” he mocked.
“Amy is a good vampire, she just does whatever it takes to protect those she loves. You don’t know anything about us, Niall, so don’t just assume-”
“Don’t just assume, what? That you guys are trying to kill my friends?! What do you expect me to assume when you two show up by the will of some Samuel guy and threaten to kill people if he doesn’t get me?! That sounds pretty evil to me!” Niall was yelling now as he let the anger that had been boiling inside for the past couple of hours. Makayla was unaffected. She just kept playing with the grass with a bored expression on her beautiful face. Yes, Makayla was indeed beautiful. Niall had to admit that. He hadn’t had a chance to truly look at her since she was always hiding behind Amy. Her brilliant blue eyes that mirrored his own were hiding years and years of sadness and hurt. Niall had to hold the back the urge to pull her into one of his famous ‘Horan hugs’.
“Yeah, I’ll pass on the hug, thanks,” she chuckled and looked up at him. “Glad to know you think I’m beautiful, though. And I don’t hide behind Amy, I just go unnoticed. Something I’ve grown used to over the years.”
“Stay out of my head,” he frowned.
“Stop staring at me, then.” The two stared back at each other for what felt like hours before Makayla cleared her throat. “Whatever, I better get to geometry.”
“Yeah, whatever.”
Makayla stood up from her seat and began walking towards the doors when she turned around and groaned at Niall in frustration. “God, Niall, don’t you at least wanna know why Samuel wants you? I mean, if it were me, i’d be begging someone to tell me. Don’t you wanna know?!”
“Of course I wanna know, but are you gonna tell me?!” He yelled at her. She looked down at the ground and shook her head slowly.”Didn’t think so,” he whispered.
“I will tell you this though, he doesn’t wanna hurt you OR rape you, as Harry seems to think. He just wants to make sure you're okay, and have you back in his life. He really just misses you,” she said softly as she turned back around and headed for the doors.
Niall watched her leave and shook his head. Now he was even more confused. So Samuel didn’t wanna kill him? He just missed him?! What the hell was going on?! Niall had a weird feeling that things were not nearly as complicated as they were about to be.
