Tracy's POV.I headed to History class. I had began my day at the wrong foot. It definitely wasn't my day today. Neither was History my kind of subject. The hallway was full of all kinds of students. Some were rushing to copy and paste someone's homework, morning rush. Others were idle not sure which classes they were supposed to be in, morning sickness. Some were slowly heading for class and a few others making out along the hallway. The usual morning things. In this mix up of students I noticed one in particular with an oversize hoodie. He looked at me for a second then disappeared round the corner. I got the message and followed suit. We entered the lady's room.
"We really got to stop meeting here, Marco."
"Okay, but you have to hear this first. I did an analysis of all transfers into GreenOak institution for the past two months. A total of about a hundred thirty new students. Out of them all eleven do not have clear records of their past studies and family. Just like you. This means that besides you there are others about ten with a similar mission." He said.
I whistled at that.
That was way a lot. I was up against ten, obviously highly trained assassins.
You see my goal here was simple, make sure no one got to the target before I did."Maybe I should get enrolled too. You might need me in this." He offered seeing my concern.
"No, I it's better this way. Besides, you can always sneak in. You are a champ at that." I replied in my humorous self."I will be around incase of anything. I'll send this to Evah. She has to know this." He said.
"Thanks. I know I can count on you."
Marco, we literary grew up together. Sometimes we got separated by missions but always found out way back. Maybe that's why Evah sent him with me."I'll send you their details and names." He said as he left. He slipped out of the ladies room.
I stared at my reflection in the bathroom mirror. I rinsed my hand and wiped my face with the cold water. It felt nice.Ten assassins all after one guy was definitely a lot. I wonder what he did to deserve this. I thought as I left. Along the hall my phone beeped. It was a text from Marco. Obviously encrypted. I unlocked. It revealed a list of ten individuals, faceless though. Things can't get any worse, I sighed to myself. Then a particular number four caught my attention.
Kelvin Ray Rodgers. I knew I had heard that name somewhere, but where? I had to question myself. Then I suddenly halted. Reality hit me like a thunderbolt. Oh no, things just got from worse to worst, I thought.::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
I got to History class still dumbfounded. Mr Martins entered with a folder in his hand. I crossed my fingers hard, both hands. Please no, I said to myself. No, no, not today, I begged further. "I've got a surprise for you." He announced happily. I bent my headed on the desk. Not willing to hear those awful words. Then someone distracted him at the door.
"Rodgers, you're new right. Feel free to join us."
Out of instinct I bolted up. We locked eyes as soon as I looked at him.
"Take a sit anywhere." Proceeded Martins.
At that precise time I cursed the empty desk beside me. I cursed it so much I wanted it to burn. I watched as he made his way to the desk. Not here not here anywhere but here, I crossed the rest of my fingers. I felt like spitting on it, and I could have had he not been too close. He sat took out a book and a pen.
"Now where was I? Oh yeah my surprise." Martins continued. He pulled out from his folder a set of papers. I held my fingers so tight in last hope.
"Not pop quiz, anything but that." I said this time a bit loud."Pop quiz!" Announced Mr. Martins.
Immediately moan were heard from the rest of the students.
He passed over the set of questions we were required to fill."Now here are the instructions. You have just this lesson to finish. Answer all the questions and lastly, no copying." He said. The last part was evidently directed to the two jerks at the last desks. Fred and Jason.
I looked at the questions. For any that I might actually have the answer to. "Explain the roles of the first five Presidents of the state, ten marks," I started, "who on earth were they?" I continued. Beside me I heard a small laughter. He was mocking me. I gave the question a pass and continued to the next. "How old was the sixth president when he became elected and when he retired from his term?" I moaned, "Not with the presidents again."
Beside me I heard much louder mockery laughter. I stared at his work. Surprisingly he was almost done. I stared at the rest of the class. Everyone was busy scribbling something down. I stared back at my own work. Not even started. I turned to the logic part of my mind. Arithmetics and equations. If president Six was x years old when he was elected that means he retired at x+8 years for his two terms.
I started on my work. Five minutes to the end of the lesson I had answered most of the questions with what I considered better answers.
At the back the jerks were exchanging minute notes. Small notes that came in handy in an exam."Time is up. Hand over your papers as you leave." Announced Mr.Martins.
I got out of class just as someone held my hand."Where do you think you're going?"
