Tracy's POV.

It was on a Monday, one of my best days. Why you ask? I was born on a Monday. While many people are bored about a Monday starting the week, I was glad it did. It brought new beginnings and I liked to think that I was a new beginning. However this one was different. Just like any other kid out there I was thinking about the Prom. It was just four days to go. Till Friday night. Argh! Fridays! They brought the end. Maybe I will die on a Friday. They just seem so empty.
I wasn't thrilled about the Prom however, it was about how I was going to spend it. With whom. I had secretly tried tossing a coin but it didn't work. Michael was the tail, Rodgers the head and Mercy, well the remaining side. Out of five tosses Rodgers got two, Mercy none. Allan got two while the fifth toss sent the coin flying off, landed and rolled under my apartment cabinet. It's a heavy one. Up to now I don't know which side is up. So today I wore a hood, no dress, just some leggings written Supreme in red and bold. I kept the hood on hiding my face. I hope this was disguise enough otherwise tomorrow I'd have to dress up like a nun and hope they get the message. So far I had managed to avoid them. Rodgers didn't show up last class and I still hadn't seen Michael. My last class was Chemistry practical, to be done in the lab. If worst came to worst and I see the two guys enter the room I'll just mix up a solution and bomb the lab.
I chose a position next to a guy. His name tag read Jeff. He was in complete PPE. Gloves, facemask, boots name it. He also had a name tag stuck on his lab coat pocket. He seemed excited about the whole lab thing.

"Finally we get to do real Chemistry, isn't exciting?" He said.
Yeah, nice to meet you too.
"Yeah it is Jeff." I replied.

"How is it you got my name right?" He asked with real amusement in his eyes. He probably thought I was an Angel.
"You're the only one with a name tag here." I replied. We had to half yell to each other because of the noise in the lab. Amateurs can be noisy. Wait till they get to my level. But what am I even saying. Am probably more noisy while alone in the Base Lab than these kids. And the prospect of me researching on laughing gas, there's nothing silent about that. I was working on laughing gas back at the Base. It distracted me while being off mission

"Oh yeah, the tag. It helps people to identify you incase of anything." He replied. I got silent. What was I to say? 'Yeah, I'll make sure to look for you once the place blows up,' or 'thanks for tip I will get one too'?

"You know I first thought you were an Angel, my Angel." He proceeded to yell. "I mean you look like one and you know me and we could be a team and maybe together go somewhere, as a team," he went on, making the atmosphere even more uncomfortable, " you know. We could mix. The chemicals I mean and form something new you know... "
At this point I intervened. Who knows what he'll come with next, you know.

"If I didn't know any better I would say you're asking me out." I said.
His cheeks turned a shade of pink and he couldn't help smiling. He was cute that way. Way better him being himself than acting cool to please someone, me.

"Whom me? No?" He tried brushing it off. "Please to the Prom, no way." He said confirming every aspect of it.

"Well I can't, I have got a huge load myself to add you to it." I added half as loud. He heard me of course and accepted it, though sad. He kept adjusting his goggles and I could tell he was used to wearing glasses. What was with guys?
A short time of silence elapsed. He looked to his left side and kept staring at a girl. He watched her laugh and he smiled. Was he going to ask her next after this one failed. I   don't think so. Something about how he looked at her made me rule out lust. She too was wearing glasses. She looked back to him which made him jolt and look away fast just to gete staring at him.
"What?" He asked with sweet innocence.
"Go for her, " I replied. For a moment he wanted to deny everything but gave up and sighed.

"I can't. Some guy beat me to it and she said yes." He replied. This crushed my heart. I don't know what was happening to me. Ever since I came to this institution I have been getting strange feeling and emotions I could not identify with. I was supposed to be this field agent who ruled out emotions and worked with actions. Now I was feeling sorry for a guy who couldn't ask out a girl he liked just because she had said yes to another guy. I could not even pick my own date just because I was sorry the other will get hurt. I hated every bit of what was happening. Every single bit of it. Oh well, you can't have your cake and eat it. You have to choose one.

"How about I teach you some chemical tricks?" I tried, making it humorous.
"That be nice." He replied.

"You see that blue solution, it's copper sulphate even though it isn't labeled. It's an electrolyte that deposits brown solid copper when current flows through. Here, hand me you phone." I directed. He gave me his phone and I removed the back cover. I attached some wires from the bench to the ones on his phone battery at the back. I inserted a metal copper spoon in the blue solution and a zinc plate to another chromate solution. I then teared a piece of paper and dipped each end in one of the solutions and added drops of sodium nitrate to join the two solutions and act as my salt bridge.

After a few seconds his phone lit up and showed "charging".

" pretty cool huh?"

"Wow! This is awesome!"
