MACKENZIE'S POV:
The heavily bright sun illuminated into my eyes, I groan softly due to the feeling and burst my eyes open. Finding myself staring at an unfamiliar ceiling, I shriek and jerk my body forward. This definitely isn't my room.
The gray carpeted floor and the strange coffee colored desk at the side of the room informed me I had slept over in Johnny's room.
I sigh, bits and pieces of the night before lining together. I had really confessed everything to him. The guilty feeling I've been stuck with for the past week, shoving Jayden into a locker, the rulebook. Everything.
My eyes going wide, I facepalm at my stupidity. My body feeling refreshed at letting everything slip, but also filthy for sleeping over at a boy's house, I roll my shoulders uncomfortably. What had I just done? Johnny didn't at all justify to be involved in this massive mess, and I had stubbornly brought him into it, just to fill my own needs.
My head arises with a pounding feel of pain. Sealing my eyes shut, a loud growl escapes my lips. Almost as if the problem was a burning sensation, although not quite. Remembering I had gulped down two full bottles of whiskey the previous night, I facepalm once more.
Had I really gotten drunk and confessed every little thing to Johnny? No, that wouldn't be possible. Although I wasn't completely in control my actions, I surely could never bustle up the courage to that. Princess, or no Princess– I'm still Kenzie. I'm still shy and awkward and anxiety-full. Or am I no longer that? Had I finally evolved and switched myself for the better?
Johnny's head peeked into the door frame, his face appearing blank yet startled. "Kenzie? What's wrong?" My face softening at his generosity, I still couldn't even hasten up the energy to smile due to the illness.
Grasping onto my head, as if it would ease the pain, I reassuringly respond. "Nothing, just a hangover." Smiling the slightest bit, Johnny chuckles and enters his bedroom. Softening my grip on my head, a miniature fragment of my brain returns. "Where did you sleep anyway?"
A long-held and extremely suspicious silence imitated throughout the bedroom. I eyed Johnny with squinted eyes, as he hesitantly replied. "In my parent's bedroom. They were out, it doesn't matter."
Mismanaging the least bit with my hands, I mumble guileful. "I could have slept on the floor. You didn't have to let me take your bed." He truly is a kind soul, the contrast between Johnny and his sister are extraordinary.
"You fell asleep, and I didn't want to wake you. Besides, my parent's bed is comfortable." He smirked slightly, his eyes on me as I gaze awkwardly at the bed sheets. Had he really witnessed me sleep? What an ugly view.
"You should get dressed for school."
My outfit from the previous night was untidy, one sleeve too far down and the other too far up. I sigh, taking in the fact that school is very soon. The last thing I want to do at the moment is even glance at Lauren. "I don't really have any clothes."
"Right," Johnny looked around stiffly, spurring up ideas for replacements. Twisting his mouth, a beam silently sounded his face. "You could borrow some of Lauren's clothes?" His green orbs rose somewhat, not much notified me he was proud of his idea.
I only cringe.
"I'll just drop by my house on the way to school, I'll change there." Chuckling to myself, Johnny appeared sheepish.
-
Squeaking on the detailed floor, locking of lockers, chatter of teenagers, and shuffling of both feet and books. It resembled as if any high school, intimidating yet boring.
I had dropped by my house, my mom thankfully had gone to work on time, I was quick to change and exit my house. For some unidentified reason, I was cautious. Although there was no reason to be, my mom was out.
Johnny holding his book to his chest, we both make our way to Literacy class, side-by-side. His hat was worn backward messily, a light whistle amputated under his breath. "How do you think you'll do on the Literacy test today?" Johnny conversed.
My eyes were quick to go wide. "We have a Literacy test?"
Johnny giggled slightly, passing through the hallway. "Yeah. I was studying last night, before you knocked on my door and told me everything." I groan miserably, my fingers bearly hanging onto my binder. The unique things in my life are non-existent for the most part– Literacy is all I have, and the Princesses seem to be draining every shed of happiness left in me. It's only about time until one of them slaughter Johnny from me as well.
"And, about the other night," Johnny muttered. Cryptic and transparent air formed around us, drifting in circles back and forth. The uncomfortable atmosphere that always seemed to be there when I first met Johnny returned. Johnny's face softens, "you know I'm here for you, right?"
Glancing at him, I shyly nod.
Refusing to associate with him and this awkward air any longer, I stare down at my feet. They drag me right across the Literacy classroom, Johnny rocking the door open for the both of us to enter and exercise the test I hadn't studied for. I wasn't prepared, and I surely wasn't going to ace this test like I was planning.
I transmit Johnny a single sheepish smile, examining the Literacy room.
My jaw drops, nearly smashing into the tiled floor.
There sat Faith, relaxed into her original spot. A large white cast enclosed around her right arm, and hair wrapped lazily into a ponytail. She hadn't even apprehended my existence, her attention focused gloomily on the desk.
My significantly weakened heart tumbling out of my chest, Johnny and I exchange gasps.
