MACKENZIE'S POV:

Lacing my fingers around the thick glass of whisky, I sigh and stuff my face into the counter. I've done a number of unsatisfactory actions this past while, ever since I met Johnny– ever since I encountered with the Princesses.

Vandalying a building, skipping almost every class besides Literacy, shoving a fragile girl into a locker purposely, and convincing Hayden to lend me a fake ID, allowing myself to enter a bar and drink a little.

I understood somewhere in that hectic head of mine, this was wrong, and I was changing myself to an extraordinary degree. But I felt broken, I was a different person. Everyone, including myself, can see the change in me. I can bearly recognize myself anymore.

Johnny and I have been dating for a week now. I have been part of that corrupt clique for a week now as well. I moonshined Nadia's warning to the back of my mind, it's not as if I trusted her anyway. But now I understood what she had meant when she informed me I didn't know what I was getting myself into.

The rulebook.

The stupid rulebook.

Don't associate with anyone lower than you.

Don't embarrass us nor yourself.

Don't stare down at your feet while walking.

Don't do any extracurricular activities.

Don't get involved in anything reckless.

The news had eventually spread; Johnny Orlando had finally found a girl, and she happens to be the shy and anti-social soon-to-be Princess. Lauren had handed me a booklet. At first I had presumed it was a chamber filled with all of their secrets. But then I apprehended what it contained; it was a rulebook.

A rulebook filled with stupid, un-needed rules. As long as I'm a Princess, I must follow them. I had first guessed it was a joke when Lauren had delivered it to me, but then I profited the stone cold look on her face, and canceled that thought out of my head.

With all honesty, those five rules were more-than-troublesome for me to follow. I've lost count of the number of times I'd embarrassed myself by tripping or slipping the wrong words. Not to mention, staring down at my shoes had pretty much become a habit of mine. The volunteer club I had attended every Wednesday was now forbidden, Hayden was also restricted from me.

The rule that really got to me was the last one– don't get involved in anything reckless. The time I had vandalized that abandoned building with Lauren's brother had scared away any inch of hope found in me. I was so petrified of getting caught and having these advantages steered away from me. God knows what Lauren would do, what Johnny would do if Lauren discovered our secret.
