(I'm sorry if this seems rushed! I don't mean to do it, but like I said, I'm just giddy to work on the next book)
Johnny's POV
Pony and I made our way through security, and onto the bus that would take us to where we were staying.
I can't believe we're here.. it's been so long since I've seen the place again. I bit my lip, giddy to be able to get off the bus and look around.
Pony intertwined our fingers, grinning too. Once the bus stopped at our hotel, we both hopped off, excitedly. I'd never been to this hotel before, but still, I remember vaguely seeing it around.
"Woah.. sure is beautiful.." Pony murmured, under his breath.
"I know, right," I replied, "but you haven't seen anythin', yet. Promise I'll show you all the cool places."Pony nodded, smiling softly. I led him into the hotel, and we checked in, taking our stuff up to the room. After we dropped our bags in the corner, I sighed, falling forward onto the bed we'd be sharing for the next couple days.
Ponyboy giggled, laying next to me.
"Hey," I began, an idea popping into my head, "You wanna go to the market?"
"Market? Like an outdoor one?" He asked, to which I nodded.
"Yeah! On weekends, there's a market with fruits, and Italian stuff! There's an indoor one, too! What's it called.." I thought for a second, "Mercato centrale- that's the one."
"'Course, I'd love to go," Pony replied, and before either of us knew it, we were nearly there, having admired all the gorgeous sights on the way. There's definitely time to check those out, too.
We passed Cafes, gardens, street sellers, and tons of other stuff, too. I bet Pony'd love the medieval streets here.. I'll have to show them to him, later. He's a history nerd, and even though he might not think much about it, I think it's adorable.
I brought us to the outdoor market first, since it's so pretty outside today.
"Woah, è ancora più grande di quanto mi ricordi!" I whispered, under my breath. "It used to be just half this street- look at it now, it's crazy!" I exclaimed, pausing in my tracks.I turned back around to tell Pony something, but I didn't see him. Barely even started the trip and I already lost my boyfriend in the crowd.
I frowned, standing on my tippy toes to try and see through the people.
Just as I was about to start asking people, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I whipped around, to see Pony holding a flower. A yellow rose, the same type I gave him all those months ago.I nearly melted, grinning stupidly.
He reached up and tucked it behind my ear. "Aww, Johnnycakes, you look so pretty!""Bambino-" I covered my face, as my cheeks burned, but now I knew it wasn't from the heat.
After messing around at the market for a while, I thought a change of scenery might be nice.
"Hey, Pony! You wanna see somethin' cool?" I asked, meeting his green eyes.
"Sure, baby, what'd you got in mind?"
I grabbed his hand and raced past people walking from vendor to vendor, past the people eating at cafes, and past the tourists taking pictures of sights.
We ran and ran, until I finally stopped us in a pretty green clearing filled with flowers and trees.
A few seconds of catching my breath later, I started to talk again, "I spent a lot of my time here.. stargazing, cloud-watching.. drawing, writing, you name it, I did it all here.."
"Woah.." Pony mumbled, looking from the flowers to the sky. Totally clear view, nothing obscuring the gorgeous sight.
I walked over to an old tree, right in the middle, and ran my hand along the trunk, until I found something. I'd carved my initials into my favorite tree right before I left Italy, so that if I ever came back, I'd know which one it was.
I traced the 'JC' with my finger, smiling to myself.
I took a quick glance around, before jogging over to the side of a building, Pony at my side, and hooking my feet onto the ladder.
This particular building was my favorite, because it was a cafe, and it had a ladder on the back, so you could climb all the way up to the roof.
"Are you afraid of heights?" I asked, having already climbed a few prongs up.
"Nah, not really." He replied, taking his spot on the ladder below me.
"Perfect."
We climbed onto the roof, finally having a second to take a breather, in the crisp evening air at the top.
I scrambled to the edge, where there was a probably foot-and-a-half wall, so no one would go falling off the edge.
You could see for miles from up here. I used to joke that you could see all the way to Rome. And while you probably can't, you can see nearly all of Florence.
And that's where me and Pony watched the sunset together. On the roof of a cafe, in Florence, Italy.
And it was perfect.
