"Ken. Are you ok," I asked her. She just stared at him and didn't say a word. I was worried. People were still dancing and partying so I told Ken to come in the kitchen so I can find out what was wrong with her. Her father stood there at the door.
"Ken, what's your problem". "That's my father". "I know, you said that. But what's wrong with him being here?". She didn't say nothing. She started to cry and ran out the back door. "Ken! Come back!". I didn't know what to do at that point.
I went back into the living room to tell her father that she left. "Yeah, Kendra had to step outside for minute, but if you like, you can have fun and party I guess". "No that's ok, when you see her, please tell her that I'll be home. Is her mother here?". "Yeah, she should be upstairs". "That's fine, I'll just see her at home". "Ok".
I'm not sure what's going on with Kendra. She hasn't told me anything about her father. I couldn't party anymore because I wasn't in the mood. Tyler asked me where she was and if she was ok. He offered to go look for her with me as well. So, we did.
We walked around the neighborhood looking for her. It eventually got dark. We talked about our childhood and growing up together. "You know I missed you when you left right?".
"Of course you did. We were best friends. Almost like brother and sister". "Yeah. Remember the time in sixth grade when you ran for vice president, and during your speech you tripped and fell on the first row". "Oh gosh don't bring that up!". "It was pretty funny".
"Well, what about the time in fourth grade when that big girl took your lunch and put in down your pants". "Ok now that wasn't funny! She was a big girl". "Yeah, she use to bully you all the time. That was crazy". "Man, what was her name again?". "Paige". "Paige. I wonder where she's at now". "Pregnant".
"You serious?". "Dead ass. She left a year after I did because our mom's were best friends so she convinced them to come here. She's been torching me since then. Oh and she lost a lot of weight from fat camp".
After talking for a little while, we finally saw Kendra coming out of a liquor store with a soda. "Ken!". We both ran towards her. "Why are you guys here?". "We were looking for you," I said. "Well, don't. I'm fine". "What's wrong with you? Why did you run out like that?". "Because I had too". "Why?". "You guys wouldn't understand". "Baby," Tyler started, "We're here to help you. C'mon, let's go over here and talk about this".
We sat down across the street from the liquor store. Kendra told us everything about how her father allowed this guy to rape her for drugs and money and how her mom wouldn't believe her. She told us that he went off with another woman and has been gone for four years.
"When I seen him at the door, I didn't know what to do. I figured I should run. I've been running this long but somehow he managed to find me here. Zee, can I please stay at your house tonight?". "Of course Ken". We started to hug after that.
"Is it ok if I stay too?" Tyler asked. "Yeah, sure". We all had a moment at that point. I felt bad for my friend. She's been through so much and she needed someone there for her. We all went home and the party was over.
"There you are! Baby, what's going on," Trevor asked me. "Ken had ran out the house I went to go look for her. Everything is fine". "Well, you need me to stay here tonight?". "Hell No!" Devyn said to him. "I don't need none of yall staying here, this is my house".
"Um, my brother owns this is. You just live in it". "Bitch, come correct! I paid for this house, so whatever I say goes". I knew she was lying. My brother had this house before he met Devyn. "Look, Tre just go home. I already have Ken and Ty staying here. Don't worry, we'll be fine".
"No! Kenya and Tyrese ain't staying here!". "It's Kendra and Tyler! And they can if I want them to". "I'm gonna talk to your brother about this". "Go head!". Devyn really hates me for no reason. And if it's jealousy, I don't know why.
She's a model, twenty three, young, pretty, and skinny. Any girl would want those features. But her attitude is another story. My brother really needs to do better. Later that night they were arguing about my friends and me being here.
The argument was pretty intense but my brother isn't violent towards women. We were in the basement just talking about different things. Me and Ty's main goal was to just make sure Ken is happy, and she was.
The next day we went to get some ice cream. Tyler paid for all of ours. Ken told me that he usually does that. He's a good man for her to be honest. She needs that in her life. Especially someone to protect her.
After eating ice cream and just talking, Tyler said that he would take her home. "Oh Ken, are you going to be ok? Do I need to stay he night?" I asked her. "No, I'll be fine Zee. Besides, I'm praying that he left the state and went back to his other woman".
We hugged one last time before she left. Tyler drove her home afterwards. When she left, I remembered that I forgot to tell her that her father would be there. I tried calling her but no answer. I forgot all about that. Then I thought that maybe he left considering he that last night.
"Thanks for taking me home baby" Kendra said to Tyler in the car. "It's no problem, you know I got you". "Yeah, I do". As they were pulling up, they noticed the chrysler in the driveway from the party. They didn't know who was there at all.
Tyler parked the car and walked her in the house. When they walked in, her mom was sitting on the couch. "Mom, who's car is that outside in the driveway?". "The Chrysler sweetheart? Oh that's...". "That's mine".
A man's voice came from the kitchen. He walked out with a sandwhich in his hand and smiled at Kendra. "Baby, I'm glad you're here because now, you can finally meet this nice young man," her mom said as she gestured to him. He continued to smiled and reached out to shake her hand. "How are you doing. My name is James"...
