We had told Newt and Gally what we had found. Newt thought it was interesting, and Gally just got pissed.
Now, I felt betrayed. I had killed the Griever. If hadn't been for me, they wouldn't have found the tracker in the first place. But no. They had left early in the morning to investigate more about the Maze, WITHOUT ME.
The rest of the people in the Glade stood around the entrance to the Maze. I was worried for them. They had a possible key to leaving this place, and now they were far away in the Maze; or so I thought.
"There they are!" Chuck pointed to them, as they ran towards us.
"Now, what the hell is going on out there?" Newt yelled as they rushed into the Glade.
"What the hell have you done now, Thomas?" Gally sneered.
I shot him a dirty look. He clearly didn't know when to shut up.
"We found something... a new passage. We think it could be a way out." Thomas panted.
It was my turn to scowl.
"Without me?" I asked.
"It's dangerous. You're just a kid." Minho replied.
"I can handle myself. Besides, you're only a few years older than me." I said.
"A way out?!" Newt questioned, ignoring my outburst.
"It's true. We opened a door, something I'd never seen before. I think it might be where the Grievers go during the day." Minho confirmed.
"Wait. Whoa, whoa, whoa. wait, you're saying you found the Griever's home? And you want us to go in it?" Chuck gasped, rushing up to Thomas's side.
"Their way in could be our way out, Chuck." Thomas answered.
"Yeah, or there could be a dozen Grievers on the other side. The truth is, Thomas doesn't know what he's done, as usual." Gally spat.
Great. He just had to come along and ruin things. We could escape... be free from the Glade and the dangers of the Maze...
Thomas whipped around to face Gally. Some drama was going to go down.
"Yeah, well, at least I did something, Gally. I mean what have you done, huh? Aside from hide behind these walls all the time." Thomas sneered.
"Let me tell you something Greenie. You've been here three days, alright? I've been here three years."
"Yeah, you've been here three years and you're still here, Gally. Alright, so what does that tell you? Maybe you should start doing things a little differently."
I snickered, but froze as Gally turned his head to me.
"Oh, you think this is funny? Huh? Well I don't think you'll be laughing when I smack you, you little-" Gally was cut off as Newt stepped between him and I.
"Calm down Gally. There's no need to drag her into this." he said.
Gally huffed and turned back to Thomas, giving him a deathly stare.
"Hey! It's Alby!" Teresa called.
Newt grabbed me and pulled me along with him, towards the little shack Gally was in.
Alby was sitting on the edge of the hammock, looking solemn.
"Has he said anything yet?" I asked.
"No." Teresa answered.
I froze as I heard yells. They were getting louder.
"What's going on out there?" Newt said, looking out to the door.
They rushed out to find everyone running about.
"The door's wont close!" someone yelled.
"Oh no..." Newt moaned.
There was panic in his voice.
I turned as another entrance began to open on the other side of The Glade.
Thomas took charge. As he told everyone what to do, some voices erupted.
"RUN! GREAVERS! RETREAT! RETREAT!"
"Oh shit."
We ran into the corn field. My ears were ringing and I couldn't hear. I felt a hand on mine, guiding me. I was breathing heavily as we rushed into the village.
We met up with Alby. I screamed as I watched people get eaten by the Grievers. Thomas's hand clamped over my mouth and I watched in horror.
"Hush." Newt whispered to me as we sprinted through the village.
We ran towards a house, only to turn back as a Griever crashed through. I noticed a little candle, and hurtled it into the Griever, distracting it as we continued to run.
"Good job!" panted Teresa.
I smiled, but it faded as the Griever began to gain on us.
Some of the guys threw spears at it, but that only made it angrier. We sprinted through the dusk.
"Come on! Over hear!" Chuck yelled as we ran.
We hustled into the shack. Gally bolted the door and the others put stuff in front of it to keep it shut.
I closed my eyes as the Griever's shrieks filled the night. It was scarier than the Griever in the Maze. At least in the Maze, there was only one.
The Griever was walking on the roof. I heard the ceiling creaking as the monster's weight brought it down.
"Stay back, guys."
We slowly stepped away from the spot that the creature was standing.
"Oh no!"
The Griever's tail burst through the roof, pulling the support beam. That caused part of the roof to fall.
"Ah!" I cried.
The Griever's tail burst through the wall this time, snatching me around the waist. Thomas and Newt leaped up, trying to pull me from the monster's grasp.
"Grab her!"
They pulled and pulled but no avail. That was, until Alby ran and broke off the injector part of the Griever. He swung the bat down as hard as he could onto the tail. He panted and took one more swing, making the tail drop me.
I coughed as Newt helped me up.
"Are you alright?" he asked, grabbing my hands protectively.
I nodded. Alby stood there watching.
"Alby watch out!" Thomas screamed as the tail came back, grabbing him.
Alby said something to Thomas, and Thomas nodded. He tried one last time to pull Alby out, but it was too late. Thomas screamed and made his way out of the shelter.
"Thomas wait!" Teresa screamed.
They all rushed out, but there was no sign of him. No sign of the Griever's, either.
