Susie stood in front of the closet that led her into the Dark World the first time. She looked back down at the note she held in her hands, then took a deep breath. Kris was the only one who could open and close fountains, save from the Knight, but Susie had no idea who that was. She didn't even know if she'd be able to get in without Kris, but she had to try. If they needed her help down there.
She went into the closet, and was enveloped by darkness. The next thing she knew, she was falling. She prepared to land right on the stone cold floor, and also prepared for that hour long walk to the castle, but instead, she fell right through the roof. She panicked, and during that, dropped the note she had.
She had slammed through two floors with loud crashes and ended up in Rouxls Kaard's shop, just in front of the counter, where Rouxls was slouched, sleeping using his arms as a pillow. Of course, he jolted awake in shock upon Susie's arrival.
"Good morning, Rouxls!" Susie said, cheerfully. "How are you?"
"What the fucketh was that?" Rouxls didn't look too happy to see Susie. "Not even a warning? Telleth us the nextst time thou decideth to do that."
"Sorry." Susie stood up and brushed herself down. Rouxls yawned, then stretched. His hair was just clinging onto the remains of a ponytail, and he looked like he was dying. "What's up with you?"
"Nothing." Rouxls said, not even hesitating. "I'm just tiredst, is all. Being higher authority is exhausting, worm. That being said, what brings thou doing here?"
"I got a cryptic note from Lancer saying that you all needed my help down here. Have you seen him?"
"I did see him last night, wandering around. I don't knoweth where he is now, though."
"Right, big help." Susie started to leave. "I'll just check his room and if he isn't there, I'll wait until he gets back."
"I've seen Lancer." A random Rudinn said, "he was going into the elevator."
A memory occurred to Susie. A memory of standing in front of a cell talking to a weird prisoner. This was quickly followed by the memory of getting her ass humiliatingly kicked.
Susie pushed past the Rudinn without saying anything, speed walking towards the elevator. She now knew exactly where she was going.
You had put it's plan into action. It knew where Lancer was, and where Susie was going. It followed her, unseen. It couldn't wait to finally have some fun. It had a whole bank of souls itching to be used against everyone else. And the souls of Darkners would also be so good to get. Where Susie was headed, it would hopefully get lucky and have a two in one. Three was too ambitious at the time.
Susie took the ride on the elevator and stood at a stairway. The stairway to Hell, pretty much. She started walking down, and heard Lancer speaking.
"I don't know why I always feel so bad, I just- do you hear footsteps too?"
"Lancer!" Susie sprinted down the rest of the stairs. She tripped on her way down, though, and took a head first fall down the entire flight. She needed to get out of the habit of falling, she wasn't normally clumsy.
When she tumbled to the bottom, she saw Lancer staring at her like she'd fallen from the heavens. From the darkness of the cell, she could just about make out the face of the prisoner, Jevil, that was in there.
"Nice of you to drop in." Jevil said, and Susie could see the glimmer of his smile from inside the cage.
"Susie!" Susie wasn't expecting a hug, but Lancer gave her one anyway. Out of friendship. Susie pushed him off her. "What brings you here?"
"What do you mean? You." Susie looked at Lancer's confused face and tried to elaborate. "You wrote a note, I don't have the note, saying you needed my help. Ring a bell?"
"I never did anything like that." Lancer put it a little too bluntly, "and even if I did, how would I get it to the Light World without going up there myself. I can't do that, and why would I drop a note instead of staying to talk to you?"
Susie went silent. She didn't know Lancer was smart. Well, of course she did, but she didn't know he had more intelligence than her. The note was so obviously fake, but Susie was so worried that she'd ignored all reason.
"Does this note even exist?" Jevil asked from his boundaries. To which Susie retaliated.
"Do you even exist?"
It was supposed to be a meaningless bite-back, but the vague image of Jevil's smug grin suddenly made her start thinking.
"If I didn't write this note, who did?"
You mean this note?
You strolled down the stairs, the light from the fire that glowed from the monochrome goat woman barely visible behind it. In the centre was that ladies soul, which faintly gave off light to make her visible. In You's other hand, it held Susie's note.
"Who are you?" Susie asked, sending eye contact messages to Lancer, trying to connect with the telepathy only best friends and twins had.
My name is You. And I have come to collect your souls. It's a pleasure to meet you both.
"Both?" Jevil asked, sounding slightly offended.
Oops. I forgot about Lancer. Yes, the three of you. I'll only be taking one of your souls, though. Susie, Lancer, decide between the two of you who lives and who die-
You was cut off by an axe hitting them dead in the soul they were holding. They rid of the soul immediately, and now they were almost invisible.
I should've expected you wouldn't go down without a fight. Very well then. I didn't want to do this, but you leave me no choice.
Another souk, bright red, glowed in the dark.
You remember Kris, don't you?
