So, I wrote a song for this chapter (linked above) and it would mean a lot to me if you could listen. I don't usually write songs or post me singing on youtube (because I'm pretty self-conscious) but I felt like writing a song for this oneshot. So, yeah, it would mean a lot if you could listen and tell me what you think.

How To Love Again

Her lips parted in sorrow as tears welled in her eyes. In front of her sat her closest friend and crush of two and a half years.

The bronze-skinned male looked down at his lap.

The two of them were sitting at the end of his bed in his large apartment. (Y/n) wanted to reach forwards and hold his head against her chest and soothe all his pain. She wanted to lay down with him and stroke her fingers through his dark hair. She didn't want to see him so hurt like this.

His lashes were wet and tears streamed down his copper cheeks, to his chin and then fell onto his lap.

"Please. . . Don't say that, I don't want to lose you too." He whispered.

(Y/n)'s (h/c) brows furrowed in sorrow as she dived forwards to take his hands in her own ones. Her fingers skimmed up his arms and to his face as she cupped his face in her (s/t) hands.

She had just confessed her love to him and in turn, he had looked terrified. He began crying as memories filled his mind.

"Who hurt you?" The (e/c)-eyed female questioned. His reaction to hearing that she loved him could only be caused by a heart that's been played with and broken.

Connor removed her hands from his face, not wanting to let his walls down.

"I don't want to risk a relationship again." He put simply, "I've been used for my father's money and as someone to sleep with. I don't want to be used and abandoned again."

"I'm not going to use you. I'm not going to abandon you." She spoke as her gaze bore into his umber brown orbs. "I want to love you, Ratonhnhaké;ton." She brought her right hand up to the side of his neck.

"They all said the same thing though. . ." He spoke quietly, doubt riddled in his voice.

"Then let me show you." She spoke as she brushed her thumb over his jaw, bringing her hand up to the side of his neck. "I don't love you for someone to bed or for your money." She flashed a smile to him that showed the feelings that she had for him, "I love you for your laugh, your smile, your eyes, the way you breathe heavily when you sleep, the way you see the world, how you sit on chairs, how I feel so tiny and protected standing next to you. I can't help but stare when you stand in the sunlight and all of you is just highlighted so perfectly. I love when you tell me about your culture from your mother's side. I love your voice and the rare times when I hear you sing." Her smile widened as she took his hands in hers. If she had to confess everything to make him believe her then she would confess everything. "I find it adorable how you stand with your hands folded. I love how kind and sweet you are and how you've always been here for me in the four years that I've known you. I always want more when you hold me while I'm upset. I love everything about you. I love you, Connor." She confessed.

A silence fell between them and it was clear that her speech had had an effect of him.

"I know that you've been hurt and used and lied to by so many past lovers. But I'm not going to give up. Pushing me away won't extinguish these feelings." She spoke with an assertive tone.

"(Y/n). . ." He began, "I don't want to lose you, I don't want to be scared that you're going to use me and leave like everyone else."

"Then listen to me, Ratonhnhaké;ton." She smiled softly as she reclaimed his hands in her own, her (s/t) fingers feeling tiny against his much larger hands, "Let me show you. I want to be here for you. I didn't want to come and go, to hide things from you, I want to be there for you always. I want to be the one you can turn to about anything."

"I. . ." The bronze-skinned male was too conflicted to form a sentence out of the thoughts that whirled around his mind.

"Let me help you heal." She whispered as her (e/c) orbs bore into his deep brown ones. "I know that you've been hurt and I'm not telling you to forget — I'm asking you to not let these girls hold you back. Why should they be the reason that you can't love again, hmm?"

"I want to,(Y/n), I really do but I just. . ." He looked down at his fingers that were intertwined with hers, "But I just hold you so dear to me and I don't want to lose that."

"Then hold me even closer." She smiled softly, "Let me inside these walls that you've built up. I'm not going to leave you because you're everything to me — I have no idea how I ever got by in life without you." She paused to laugh lightheartedly at all her emotions that she was putting into words at last. "Life without you is incomplete; it's like an art gallery without paintings, a melody without notes, a sky without stars. You make it all worthwhile, Ratonhnhaké;ton." She spoke, knowing her words would sink in more if she used his birth name. "Let me love you."

His dark brown eyes sparked with a hope that slowly kindled into a low burning fire of warmth in his eyes as he leant forward and encased the smaller female in his arms, pulling her against his chest.

A beaming smile split her lips as she positioned herself onto his lap and wrapped her arms around his neck, combing her fingers through his dark and silky hair.

"I love you." She whispered in his ear as she trailed feathery kisses across his cheek and to the corner of his mouth, stopping there out of concern for his comfort. She placed her hands on his jaw, cupping his face as she searched his eyes. His copper hands landed on her sides as she pressed his forehead to hers, his hesitation slowly melting away.

"I love you too." He whispered before softly pressing his lips to hers.

It was a sweet kiss, a slow one and a simple one. And yet, it was everything (Y/n) had been yearning for, for years.

Content with the kiss, She mumbled against his full lips: "I'll teach you how to love again."
