arthur's pov

I somehow find my way outside without bumping into any other students and I dial my phone hoping that Ben picks up, and I get to talk to him. I don't know why I so desperately want him to pick up, or call me first.

I nearly felt my heart leap to my throat when Ben picked up the phone. "Hey," I held my breath, smiling when I heard Ben on the other line. I nearly forgot to respond to him, so in the five seconds of silence, he whispered "Hello? Arthur?" I coughed, saying hi back to him.

"How was the rest of your day?" I crossed my arm under my elbow holding the phone close to my ear. It was around February so it was sort of chilly outside. Now I was really regretting rushing out of my dorm and not bringing any sort of jacket with me. Ben laughed, making my ears ring. I could listen to Ben laugh all day.

"It was good, I got some homework done and my afternoon class was cancelled because the teacher got sick," he said, I scraped my shoe on the concrete. For our campus, each dorm building was connected to the rest of the site where the class building were. Everything was connected with sidewalks, and my favourite part about the whole thing was that the sidewalks all connected so if you walked long enough you could loop back around to where you originally started.

On my freshmen year here, that really calmed my nerves. I was always so nervous about missing a class or getting lost, and when my mom told me to just "follow the sidewalk" I didn't feel so scared about getting lost. Plus I had made a few friends and I could always call them up and ask where the flip I was.

I stood out in the cold, listening to Ben talk about his school day. One part of me wanted to go inside to the warmth. But if Evan was still on the phone I didn't want to interrupt him, or lose my signal and miss a few words of what Ben was saying.

So in the end, I just decided to suck it up and stay outside. Who needed heat?
