arthur's pov
━━━━━━━━━━━━
Evan and I had started to get used to each others company. Sometimes Evan and I would talk for hours about the most random things, our favourite bands, our boyfriends, how awful classes were... and other times we would sit in the silence of each others company. It was nice having a friend in college, I should have thought to open up to my roommate way sooner then I did.
I was working on copying the lecture notes I had just taken into the computer — so I could study them at a later time and didn't have to worry about losing the sheet of knowledge. When Evan ran into the room, on what looked like, a caffeine high. I honestly thought Evan never drank coffee, wouldn't he just be twice as shaky? His anxiety already made him nervous, I couldn't image him drinking coffee and having that doubled.
"Evan, you okay man?" I looked at him with concern, what did I do if he threw up? Can someone throw up from drinking too much coffee? Evan didn't respond to my verbal calls so I decided to take the safe route and call his boyfriend, who picked up on the first ring.
"Hey Evi," he whispered, his voice was groggy so I imagined he just woke up from a nap. Oof. Now I had felt kinda bad for calling him when he was sleeping, but this was a somewhat of an emergency! And Connor knew Evan better then I did.
"Uh- not Evan, it's his roommate Arthur. I think Evan's sick? Or he drank too much caffeine? I don't know he's just really shaky and spaced out? Do you know what-?" the words had died in my throat. I had felt bad for calling up Connor, what if he didn't know what to do either? There was some movement on the other side of the phone, and I was worried Connor was just going to say I was going insane and Evan was fine.
"Okay, Arthur. Grab Evan's hand, can you do that for me?" Connor instructed in a calm voice. I was starting to feel very sick to my stomach. "I need you to do that for me," he whispered. I had made my way over to Evan's bed and looked down at him. I didn't even talk to him, I just reached for his hand and hoped it snapped him awake.
"Put me on speaker, or hand Evan the phone so I can talk to him." Connors' voice was very steady and calm. As if he had done this before. I handed the phone to Evan who grabbed it and yanked it up to his ear. As soon as Connor started talking he started crying. I didn't know if I should have grabbed the phone away to make him stop crying, or if I should have gone to my side of the room or what. I grabbed Evan's phone from the nightstand -- while Evan was calling Connor on mine -- and I decided to text my boyfriend to see his opinion on all of this.
ARTHUR: hey bb so Evan's is really shaky and quiet and i called connor and he knew just what to do and how to do it. he calmed evan down a bit but he's still crying and on the phone with connor. you think he'll be okay???
Ben answered right away.
BEN: I'm in a lecture rn, but i think it's very sweet that connor can help out evan like that. everything should be fine, and worse comes to worst just take him to the clinic.
I decided to leave Ben alone so he could focus on his class, I turned back to the situation at hand. Evan had stopped crying and he looked happier. After a few more minutes of talking to Connor, Evan handed me my phone back.
"So what--"
"Evan had a panic attack," Connor explained, "Usually when he does it's because something triggered his anxiety, such as a crowded hallway or loud shouts or something. He gets really quiet and shaky and he cries a lot. I'm usually there to hold his hand and calm him down, but since I can't be at his side 24/7, it's become a constant fear of mine that he won't have someone to help him out. Thank GOD he was with you if it ever happens again call me. If I don't pick up call me until I do," Connor explained. I nodded my head and looked to Evan who was tracing the lettering on the poster above his bed.
Instantly, my respect for Connor had grown. Not only did he help me out during Evan's episode, but he calmed down Evan in under ten minutes.
"Just look out for him a bit? You don't have to constantly worry about him but just make sure he takes his meds," Connor took a deep breath and sighed. "Thank you for calling me, you're such a good friend to Evan," I grinned, glad that I made Connor happy. Maybe he would be in a happy mood and be nice to Ben later when he returned from his lecture...
"Of course," I smiled, we ended the phone conversation and I looked to Evan. Who looked up at me sadly.
"I miss my boyfriend," he whispered, sitting straight up and hugging a pillow to his chest. I nodded, because honestly... I did as well. I hadn't gotten to see Ben in person since the trip to New York, and we had gotten together over the phone. I couldn't wait to finally see him in person at some point and do all the couple-y things that couples do. Holding hands, snuggling, hugging. I really craved to be the most clingy boyfriend with Ben.
"Me too," I sighed taking a seat on my bed.
"Thanks for helping me out with my -- episode. You were very nice and usually, most of my friends just leave me alone because they don't know what to do or how to comfort me. You really are a good friend," Evan grinned and I was happy I had made both Evan and Connor happy with my existence.
"Of course," I grinned and laid back on my bed. I closed my eyes for a bit, letting the silence of the room envelop me like a nice hug.
