"Mr. Lee your mother is on line two" Soo Hyuk sighed deeply. He wanted to ignore the call but if he did, his mother would just appear in his office. "Thank you Mina, just transfer the call. In fact why don't you leave early today, I won't be needing you anymore" he told his secretary. "Thank you Mr.Lee! I hope that you have a good evening" Soo Hyuk chuckled at his bubbly secretary. She was only 24 years old but the girl was very smart and highly efficient. People were skeptic about his choice to hire her and thought he had a romantic interest in her. He didn't. He only chose the girl because she had amazing potential and in the last year had proven that she was the best PA that he ever had. Besides Mina is engaged to her boyfriend of three years and is planning on getting married when he finishes his military service this year. Soo Hyuk took a deep breath and answered the phone "Good evening Omma, how are you?"
"Took you long enough to answer the phone didn't it? But anyways I'm just calling to ask you if you were going to Mr. Bang's 70th birthday celebration tonight?"
"Yes Omma, I got the invite. He's an old friend of Appa's and Appa wanted me to meet him"
"Good. You were going to go whether you wanted to or not" his Mother replied. "As the new CEO of Blackstone Group it's time you made some international connections. Your father dominated the Asian market and now it's time to enter the Western market. Oh and one more thing, don't bring a date tonight. You won't need one for this function. See you later and remember that I love you" his mother said. "I love you too Omma." As he hung up the phone he suspected his mother was up to something. Soo Hyuk wasn't a fool, he knew that his mother wasn't concerned about business contacts. He was 32 years old and single. He would bet his custom made matte black Ferrari that there was a woman that his mother wanted him to meet. His mother had told him that if he didn't get married of his freewill by his 30th birthday she was going to arrange a marriage for him. To be completely honest he didn't bother with dating so that he could leave the task up to his mother. Most of the women in his social class were either very boring or horribly spoilt. It's been two years since his 30th birthday and his mother has been strangely silent about his unmarried state. He was actually quite curious about the woman his mother had chosen for him. Soo Hyuk grabbed his cars keys, and left the office to go home and get ready. As he left the building he realized that he was weirdly excited, however he wasn't going to examine why he was feeling that way.
It was 6:55 in the evening when he arrived at the hotel that the 70th birthday party was being held. He got out of his car and handed his keys to the young valet. He also gave the young man a $100 USD bill and thanked him. The young man was in awe of him and thanked him profusely. Soo Hyuk smiled and continued into the hotel. Just as he walked into the ballroom he was greeted by his best friend Lee Joon Gi. "So you finally decided to grace polite society with your esteemed presence. We are honoured" he said with a lazy smile. Soo Hyuk rolled his eyes at his friend. He sometimes wondered how he and Joon Gi became friends considering their opposite personalities, but he wouldn't trade him for anything. Joon Gi might seem like a carefree playboy, but his friend was in fact a hard working and very well respected business man. He trusted him with his life and vice versa. "Honestly I thought you getting married six months ago would have calmed your happy ass down. You seem even more hyper" he said in mock annoyance. While he was genuinely happy for his friend he was a bit jealous of him as well. Who would have thought that a playboy like Lee Joon Gi would have fallen in love with a writer. Joon Gi's eyes softened and he had gentle smile as he thought about his new wife. He had caused quite a scandal when he married a woman who was not only from a different social class than him but she was also a foreigner. A black woman to be exact. Frankly he didn't care, since he was never one to follow the strict standards that Korean high society had set for them. "Well I'm still in the honeymoon stage of marriage so it's understandable. But what brought you here today?" Joon Gi asked. "My mother insisted that I come this evening, so being the good son that I am I obeyed" Soo Hyuk stated. Joon Gi looked at his friend and snorted, "Let me guess your mother finally found a suitable wife for you. You should be careful, Chairman Kim still wants you for a son in law" Both men shuddered at the thought. Chairman Kim's daughter was the very definition of a spoiled rich brat. As beautiful as the girl was, her character was rotten. Even playboys like Joon Gi steered clear of her. As the two men's conversation turned into business Soo Hyuk noticed a very beautiful dark skin black woman walk into the ballroom.
"That woman is gorgeous"
Soo Hyuk looked sharply at his friend when he realized that Joon Gi was also looking at the woman. "Did you forget that you are married? Your wife would not appreciate you ogling other women." He spoke a bit harshly. Joon Gi looked at his friend and chuckled. His friend was clearly attracted to beautiful woman. He only spoke to get on Soo Hyuk's nerves as it has never failed to amuse him. "Just because I'm a married man doesn't mean I went blind. I was only stating a fact. Besides you're not the only one who had noticed her" And he was right as the mystery woman walked across the room it almost seemed like all the men married or single; turned their heads to look at her. The way her dark skin glowed and her long curly hair bounced. The way her hips swung and her very generous behind jiggled as she walked. The woman was wearing a long sleeved wrap around olive green dress that looked like it was painted on her body. Soo Hyuk was very taken with the woman. He didn't know who she was as he had never seen her before, but he was curious about her. It wasn't common to see black foreigners at Korean high society functions like this.
"I see you have noticed Y/n Mr. Bang's granddaughter" Soo Hyuk was startled at his mother's voice. He turned and noticed his parents standing near him. His father looked handsome in his suit and his mother was wearing a beautiful peach coloured dress. They really didn't look like that had a 32 year old son. Soo Hyuk blushed a bit having been caught by his parents almost drooling over a pretty woman. "Omma, Abeonim Good evening." Joon Gi greeted his parents.
"I must say, I never knew that Mr. Bang had a granddaughter. She is a beauty."
Mrs. Lee smirked as she had seen her son's interest and she knew that she had made the right choice. "That's because she lived in America up until a year ago when she moved to Korea. She is very close to her adoptive mother's family and she wanted to be closer to her parents now that Mr. Bang is stepping down as CEO and his son in law is taking over. Y/n Summers is an up and coming fashion designer but she's very exclusive. She only makes two limited edition collections a year and a portion of the sales is donated to charity. She even designed my gown this evening as a birthday gift." Soo Hyuk was impressed. Even though Y/n was born into wealth she is successful in her own right and quite a humble person. Eventually dinner was called and speeches were made. Soon the dancing portion of the evening had begun and Soo Hyuk decided to step out into the garden outside the ballroom for some fresh air. As he was walking along the stone path he spotted Y/n. She looked so beautiful with the way the moonlight gave her skin a soft glow. He slowly approached her and said "This is the part where I sound cool by naming all the constellations and telling you the mythologies of each one, but to be honest I could barely tell you where the North Star is located." Y/n genuinely laughed and turned to the man beside her. She was surprised to see the gorgeous Blackstone Group Heir.
"If it makes you feel better I don't know anything about the stars or their names either. I just like looking at them because they're so pretty." They both laughed and formally introduced themselves to each other. They began to ask each other questions, enjoying each other's presence. They were so caught up in each other they didn't realize that a hour had passed until Soo Hyuk's phone pinged with a text from his friend. He was reading the message when Y/n spoke "Is that the Superman watch from the Justice League Limited Edition Collection that Rolex released two years ago?" Soo Hyuk was stunned as not many people could tell and the watches were very hard to get as their were only three sets of all seven members of the original Justice League. The watches were expensive too with a hefty price tag of 7.5 Million USD a piece. "Yes, but how did you know......" his voice trailed off when she happily showed him her wrist which had the Wonder Woman watch. "So your a DC comic fan?"
"Yup! Iron Man and Captain America are cool and all but Superman and Wonder Woman would have been killed Thanos the first time."
It was in that moment that Lee Soo Hyuk decided that he had fallen in love with Ms Y/n Summers. As the budding couple walked back into the hotel they didn't notice the two older women who had been watching them the entire time.
"Do you think I should tell him that Y/n is his arranged wife?" Mrs Lee spoke to her friend. Mrs Summer's Y/n's adoptive mother shook her head. "No, let the kids build their relationship a little first. Besides, they will complain less when they find out that their wedding date has already been set for spring of next year." The two older ladies laughed at how well their match making scheme had gone as they sipped their wine.
