|09.| A KING IS NOTHING WITHOUT HIS QUEEN

THE NEXT MORNING was quite the morning. Cora had left the compound with Hayley to go back to the Bayou. The boat Jason's corpse lays in is chard while the wood of the boat is still smoking from the funeral yesterday night. When she woke up to go to the Bayou, Klaus wanted to check on how she felt, but she shrugged him off. He felt hurt that she pushed him away, but he knows that she needs space since so many emotions are running through her.

Tied up in a chair in her room is Mary, staring out of her balcony window watching as the sun rose and the people talk amongst the street. Victor had tied her up so she didn't attempt to take her own life like she did the night before. Klaus walks into the room with Victor and he quietly gasped, seeing his friend tied up.

"Do you have any idea why she would attempt to take her own life?" Klaus mutters to the heretic and he only sighs.

"Nope. Not at all. When I came back, she was standing in the study ready to stake herself. Luckily I walked in at the right time," Victor says and the two guys walk further inside.

Klaus steps closer to look at her face and it's blank. The hybrid grabs another chair and sits down in front of her. Her green eyes move from the window to his which startled him a bit since he didn't expect it.

"How're you feeling Marian?" Klaus asks softly and she moves a bit in the ropes.

"Well, I'm not a fan with being tied down to a chair with vervain ropes," Mary answers and taps her finger on the wood.

"Tell me what you remember. What made you...stride for suicide." The heretic's eyebrows scrunch up, trying to remember and the memory pops into her head. She swallows a lump that formed in her throat and exhales.

"Before you showed up to the church, Aurora took advantage of my weakness by compelling me. She said she knew about Jason's death and when he would die," Mary hesitantly explains and continues. "Your ex isn't a fan of Cora, so she said when her husband dies, I'm next. Make myself a stake and drive it though my heart so it crushes her and you."

"How did she know he would die?" Klaus raises an eyebrow and she shrugs.

"She was more like betting on it, and her bet was right."

The hybrid stands up once she finished explaining what had happened and he looks away, angry that his ex would do such a thing. If Mary would have succeeded, Klaus would be devastated but Cora would be completely shattered. He knows how much family means to her, so by all means, he needs to make sure no harm comes to Mary for her.
