Y/n POV

Kusuo and I knew each other since kindergarten and are best friends. Today's my birthday and we're at a festival that was down the street from his house. I'm the only one besides his family that knows about his secret.
"Pick one toy and I'll get it for you." Kusuo said pointing at one of the stalls.

"I would kill for that panda right there." I said eyeballing the staff member there. Kusuo threw the ball and knocked down all the pins and gave me the panda. I was quick to glomp the panda into a hug. I then proceeded to shake it, "It's so fluffy!"

"Stop doing that or else I am going to walk away from you. You're drawing attention."

"GASP! You would really abandon a girl on her birthday. Your best friend no less." I say while giggling. All he does is roll his eyes. "I know it's my birthday and I should be selfish, but I bought you this coffee cake while your back was turned."

Kusuo sighed, "Even on your birthday you can't stop thinking of others." He grabbed the small cake box and carefully placed it in one of the bags he was carrying.

For the past 10 minutes we've been talking and laughing at old memories and just enjoying each other's company. But then Kusuo's face goes from a happy one to an I hate my life kill me now. I know that face he only makes it when he Teruhashi is around. I look around frantically to see where she is and then I spot here heading toward us.

"Here put this mask in quick! Before she recognizes you!" I shove a kitsune mask in front of his face and he puts it on quickly and uses hypnosis to change the color of his hair.

"Oh hello there Y/n I didn't expect to see you here! Who is this with you? By have way have you seen Saiki around I swear I just saw him." She says in a way-too-nice voice.

"Hey Teruhashi this is my cousin Venin he's staying with my family for summer vacation. Sorry no I haven't seen Saiki at all today." I sweat drop.

"Oh well that's too bad, but hey do you guys want to hang out with me for a bit?"

"Haha sorry we were just about to leave my mom wants me home early today!"

"Oh no-no that's okay enjoy the rest of your night!" She says waving goodbye before walking off into the crowd. I saw her eye twitch, she must be annoyed that I didn't want to hangout with her.
"Coast is clear Kusuo you can take off the mask now."
"Good grief I thought she would never leave."
"Yea whatever now let's get to the top of the mountain so we can see I fireworks!" I grab his hand and start walking up the small trail in the mountain. This trail is between Kusuo and I, we made this when we were kids and kept it a secret. It leads to the best spot to watch the view or simply look at fireworks. I had a lot of good memories on this mountain the first time I broke my ankle, times when Kusuo and I would just sit and watch the sunset together, and where I first started developing my little crush on him.

When we reached the top Kusuo and I sat down and waited until the fireworks set off.
"Want some of the coffee cake?"
"I thought you'd never ask" he chuckles a bit at my comment.
"Look the fireworks are going to go off in five seconds let's count down together." Kusuo said.

"3"
"2"
"1"
Boom!
I watched in awe as the inky black sky light up in different colors and the loud booming of the fireworks was the only thing I could hear. Kusuo nudged my shoulder and handed me a box.
"Happy birthday."
"Aw thanks Kusuo!" I hug him and went the open the box. The box was really pretty it was a small black with a red ribbon wrapped around it. I opened the box and there were earrings. The earrings were ocean blue stars and the hook has a beautiful silver color.
"The hook is made out of germanium. I know how much you like your privacy and I found out that germanium blocks my telepathy so I won't be able to hear your thoughts. But it won't bother me because your the one person on this planet that mentally sane." I giggled at that last comment.

"They're so beautiful and you got ocean blue because you remembered my love for the ocean! That's so sweet! Remind me to get you a lifetime supply of coffee jelly for your birthday!" I cheered as I put the earrings on.

"I'll be holding you up to it." Kusuo remarks.

I always had my guard up I was careful of what I thought around Kusuo and now I don't have to. I look over at Kusuo and he's eating the coffee cake with pure joy and bliss. I take the time to look at his beautiful soft pink hair. The way his antennas like out of his head are cute and the way he looks like he's in his own world while he's eating that coffee cake I just adore everything about him.

I don't bother to confess my feelings or let them be shown because I know he's not looking for a relationship. Heck he even goes an extra 20 miles to avoid social interaction. So I try to tuck these feelings away, but they keep coming back. No matter how much I try to weed them out they resurface. Sometimes I try to give him hints but they never work, so I stopped.

"Hey Y/n."
"Yea?"

"Out of all the nuisances in the world I think you're my favorite."
"I don't know whether to feel offended or happy from that comment."
"Let's just say I'm glad that you're my one and only best friend."
"Same here."

Later that night I felt a sharp pain in my chest.
