The manacles were gone but we were still trapped. The room was locked and I was sure Christiana was standing on the other side of the door. Forcing my brain to blow out an idea, I felt like someone was squeezing it. Taking a glimpse at each one in the room, I saw havoc in their eyes. I turned towards the handle, slowly turning the door open win out making a sound. I leaned out of the room and peeped around. I saw Christiana standing in a distance but close enough to spot us escaping. I backed in and quietly closed the door. Turning to face them, I shivered at the sudden attention. I saw the question in their eyes. Is she outside? I nodded and observed as hope was swept away from their faces. I was dismayed when I saw the handle moving... opening the door. Everything stilled around me. As if the world was on pause. They were frozen and so was the door. Everything was slow, even the gaps between their breaths were long and their heartbeats loud in the air. I didn't know whether they were slow or I was the one super fast, but I had to make use of that moment. I had to make an illusion, deceiving Christiana and making her see us like she wanted: manacled and weak on the ground. I called for my powers and imagined the illusion, also making sure we were invisible. At least to give us one more chance. Everything went back to normal speed the moment I was done. The door opened. I heard them suck in a breath when she entered but she didn't hear it.. nor did she see us. She only saw the illusion I pushed into her mind. I beckoned for them to leave and they departed one by one. Before I had the chance to leave, Christiana was done with her checking and she exited, locking the door behind her. I was left inside and so was Stephan. He was staring at me, but I pretended I didn't notice. I imagined a wall rising beside the door on the other side, allowing us a second chance to escape. A wall that kept the form of an empty corridor. I unlocked the door and peeked outside, making sure it was safe. No sooner had I moved than I noticed Stephan not following me. I turned to face him.
"Come on" I started and I held his hand an pulled him. He was freezing in place. Not wanting to follow "Stephan we have to go! "
He looked into my eyes, engraving my soul. I saw his pained expression and the tears hidden behind his eyelashes. "Go without me.. "
"NO! " I growled and started to pull him harder "I'm not leaving without you!"
"You have to go. " he started as he pushed me outside and then leaned towards my ear and whispered "I'll make amends I promise. I'm sorry"
At that I couldn't stop myself. I gripped his arm tightly, my nails engraving through his flesh and pulled him out with me. I resisted his force pulling back and dragged him out with me "I won't leave you. Never! " for I second I saw a faint smile curve at the side I his lips but it vanished as fast as it came. We were out of the room and I saw a figure at the side I my eye. I turned to see her standing with a person. A young man with familiar handsome features. I heard Stephan swear under his breath when he saw them.
"What's wrong? "I turned to ask as he sprinted down the corridor. I tried to keep up and repeated the question.
"Long story. Later" he murmured as we ran towards the main gate. It was already opened and I saw re others waiting by the gate. We sucked in breaths as we reached it and walked through the open doors.
"Now what? " Simon started as we stood at the porch. I shrugged. Thinking about out next step, I heard voices.
"They're outside! "
"Cease them"
Yells and growls filled the air as footsteps vibrated the ground beneath us. Fear ran up my spine.
"Run" was all that came out of my lips. I felt lost.. trapped. We had to run. That was the only way. "Run!! " I yelled as I starts pushing them along and ran. I looked towards the horizon and saw the sun rising. Releasing its light to spread over the place. It's dawn!? I was paralyzed when I heard Stephan and Phillip groan as the sunlight washed over their skin. Stephan fell to his knees, and balled on the ground as the his skin started to melt. Leaking blood on the ground as his skin separated from his muscles. The pain he felt was so much harder than Phillip. The agony was clear in his eyes as he observed me. His eyes begging me to help him. I ran towards him and tried to lift him. Laying his arm over my shoulder and hopping away. The voices started again as the people followed us, trying t stop us. My chest was heavy with terror. Stephan's screams were loud in my ears, breaking out the tears I tried so hard to hold. My heart was tearing apart at the sound of his torture. I glanced up, towards the crimson sky. My tears dripping down my chin as I asked nature for help. Clouds collected over us and also over Phillip. I was relieved that agony didn't torture him like Stephan.
Stephan's groans stopped but his borrow was still frowned with ache. I quickened my pace but the voices behind us continued.
"They're monsters "
"Vampires! "
"That's king Stephan! He's a vampire! " at that my heart sank. No matter how far we go or how long we hide, we could never escape them. Everyone knew our real selves. Everyone knew we were monsters. And we would always be haunted..
