Chapter Thirty-Seven: Fly, Fly Away
The white of her vision cleared away into a foggy haze. The field had disappeared, along with Viper, leaving only a man before standing before her.
Samari recognized him, having seen the spirit in his selling wind, but now, he looked almost dixon. He had the face of a Skian and long white hair that held no bounds. He was definitely easier to see than before, but he still wasn't completely visible, a milky haze dangling him between wind and flesh.
He smiled at her, but it quickly disappeared. "My name is Temptest. Who is it that comes before me, and what should you seek from me?"
Startled by his formal speech, Samari looked down. She stared into his hazel as she said, "I am Samari, and I seek knowledge of how to use my ticon."
The words felt foreign coming off her tongue. Many times had she been able to speak an entire sentences stuttering or pausing, but this time was different. It was almost as though the words had come straight from her thoughts yet still passed through her mouth.
"And how am I to give you such knowledge? Perhaps instruction or training?"
"Instinct, " she said instantly. "I want to tell my ticon what I want, and it tells me how to do it."
Temptest rubbed his chin, watching her intently. "Interesting choice. Since you have agreed to my terms, I will agree to yours. Your freedom for mine."
Stepping closer, he reached out to touch her forehead.
She blinked, opening her eyes to the scene that had disappeared just moments before.
There was no delay before she launched into action. She clutched her hand around the gem and ripped it off Viper's neck. Rage and shock in his eyes, he reached out to grab her, but she jumped off his chest. The force of the push doubled, sending her flying as he stumbled back.
The air held her softly as she flipped backward and landed on her feet. Tentacles raced towards her. She formed a shield that blew them away on contact.
"Samari, is that you?"
She turned to see Charming starting at her in shock. Smiling, she flew over to him. She grabbed his waist and lifted him high into the air. Letting him down on a pad, she stepped back. He stumbled, but stood firm, his movements stiff.
"I got my ticon!" she squealed, clapping as she jumped from one foot to the other.
Zoran chuckled, his face melting into joy. "I see. And you got the spirit gem, too."
"How co–could I not when...Temptest...wouldn't leave me alone?" she pouted.
"Don't act as if you didn't want to. Who just gave you control over your powers? Exactly, " the spirit said as he flew up beside them.
"There you are! What was th–that thing you did, uh, back there?"
He shrugged. She glared at him as he darted away, a gleeful smile on his face. Sighing, she wrapped the necklace chain around her wrist.
She turned as quickly as though someone had pinched her. She formed a whirlwind right below the air pad. It sucked in a dark stream aimed for them, dispersing the electricity.
On the ground, Viper cursed as he sent another, yet the whirlwind moved to catch it.
"He's getting an–anxious. Wh–what's the plan to take...him out?" she asked.
"We don't."
Her shock was clear on her face when she looked at Zoran. "What do...you mean, 'We don't'? We have th–the chance to, to take out the enemy, hand him to the...authorities...and–"
