Chapter 7: The gladers

Once we get down the stairs Newt lets go of my hand and turns towards me, “Nicole, before you go out there you need to know that people are gonna ask you questions, about who you are, why you’re a girl, where you came from, stuff like that, also people are gonna look at you, lots of people, are you alright with that?” he looks at me with a slight lift of his eyebrow which is so beautiful. “I know Newt” I say with a slight smile, “I know but just giving you a heads up” “I’ll be fine, you don’t need to be so protective” I say still with a smile “I know I just don’t want you to point anymore knives at people” he laughs and so do I. Newt grabs my hand and looks at me “I can’t hold your hand out there, I’m sorry it’s because……” I put my other hand up “I understand Newt, people would get the wrong message” he smiles and lets go of my hand and opens the door. The light of the sun almost hurts my eyes and I slightly stumble, then when my eyes adjust I see that this place looks familiar which is odd. The place looks so strange the four walls of the maze surrounding it and all the trees and the green grass, I can hear animals in the distance. Newt snaps me out of it by slightly nudging my shoulder, I see all the guys looking at me with strange looks and talking to each other. Newt whispers to me “you’ll be fine just stay strong” I nod and walk forward Newt slightly in front of me, then I boy with dark skin comes towards Newt and I “I see she’s awake” he says “Alby this is Nicole, Nicole Alby” Newt says. I know another name yay, Alby puts his hand out and I shake it “I see you’ve already met Newt I hope he’s being nice” “ye, he’s been nice” I say to Alby “so Nicole I have some questions for you, first what do you remember from before you went to the homestead?” I think should I tell him about the women I haven’t told Newt yet and I want him to be the first person I tell “no, all I remember is waking up in the maze and hearing people and coming towards them” I know I shouldn’t lie but I don’t know if I could trust these people, Alby looks frustrated “okay, but if you remember anything you tell me or Newt got it” I guess that the nice voice has turned into a serious leader, I understand so I’m not pissed at him. “Newt can a talk to you for a minute” Alby says to Newt, Newt looks at me as if to ask permission, I just give him a slight nod and then he walks over to Alby. I turn around to look at this place thy call the glade, and can I just say it looks really familiar. “Hey you!” I hear a voice and turn to see an older boy come towards me, he is so tall but also really angry “yes” I say in a quiet voice, “you are the one who came out of the maze, what makes you think we can take care of you, you could be a spy sent by the creators” he says and I’m shocked but I know I half to be strong  “excuse me, nice to meet you to, do you think if I was a spy that I would have fainted or come through the maze, if I were a spy then I should have come through that box” I can tell that the boy is shocked. “What makes you think you can talk to me like that, I’m a leader!” “Well maybe you should learn some respect!” “Respect, ha you’re the one to talk, you just come in here and act like you’re the best shank in the world” I’m about to punch this guy, but somebody grabs my arm and pulls me away I look and of course it’s Newt. “What’s bloody going on!?” Newt says first looking at me then the boy “Well your little girlfriend thinks she’s the most important shank in the glade” “shut it Gally, she just woke up from being inside the maze, and she’s not my girlfriend” so now I know that Gally is the name of the person I hate “Well Newt, he says that I should learn some respect, well for all I know she could be a spy send from the creators” Newt rolls his eyes “that’s a pile of clunk, you can’t just say she a spy” “fine but I still don’t trust her” says Gally while giving me a death glare that I give back, then he walks off. Newt turns in front of me with his arms crossed “What happened?” “Well, I was just standing there and he came out to me and was saying, you’re a spy what makes you think we should take care of you and stuff like that” I don’t know what Newts gonna say but it’s not gonna be good. To my surprise he gives me a hug, I hug back it was only quick but amazing “That’s Gally for you, don’t worry about him just try to stay away from him” “Ye, I think I realised that” we both laugh “so do you want some food now?” “Yes please” “and if you remember anything feel free to talk to either me or Alby” “I will” then I followed Newt to the kitchen.
