The Maze Runner: Nicoles story

Chapter 14: First Job

"What do you mean the lady that brought you here?" He says to me with a shocked look on his face "I mean the lady in my first memory, that said she's the last one" Newt just looks shocked "Nicole you can't go anywhere near the maze okay you half to promise me even if there is someone in your head" he says, I have to think for a moment "okay I promise Newt" I know it will be hard but he's right.

"Good now let's go we have work to do" Newt says then turns around and walks towards the area that Alby was talking about. I walk behind Newt until we get there refusing to look back to the maze.

We get to the area and I can see something that's not very pleasant. the area has lots of green plants and wooden walls that have plants on them, I can see boys digging up the dirt and placing plants in them. I also see a few boys and Teresa picking the little fruit off the walls and placing them in the baskets.

Newt turns to me "you've met Teresa right?" "Ye" "good you see what there doin" "yea there picking off fruit" "yea that's what your first job is okay" he says with a nice voice that makes me well safe.

"Got it" I say to Newt, this job looks pretty easy "good I'll see you soon" Newt says with a smile and then walks away.

I walk over to were Teresa is "hey your out of jail" she says turning to me "yea" "I'm guessing your job is to help us take the grapes off the vines" "yep" "cool here you go" she says giving me a basket woven with what feels like straw "you can start over here" Teresa says pointing to a small section of grapes.

I start picking off the individual grapes and placing them in the basket, I keep thinking about the kiss I shared with Newt It was so beautiful I know that I have strong feeling for him and I'm hoping he has them as well.

"your pretty good at this" says Teresa "thanks your not to bad yourself" we both laugh which makes me feel good because I know she a good person. Teresa walks over to me "so Nicole I saw Newt coming in and out of the jail, is there something going on between you to?" 

I don't know what to say what If I tell her then I might get banished "don't worry I won't tell anyone,I'm just curious" "well um no he just came to say hi" "your liaring I can tell, just tell me Nicole" "well he's really sweet but we can't be something because of that rule" I say remembering that stupid rule "i knew it" "you can't tell anyone this is between you and me got it" "I got it" Teresa answers with a slight smile.

"What?" "nothing its just you guys are so good for each other" She says with a slight smile "thanks" "now lets get this job done" Teresa says and then we both go back to working.

Its been a long day and to make things better when we finish our job it starts to rain we go undernealth the shelter until the rain dies down a bit. I start talking to one of the gladers he seems really nice. then I feel a hand touch my shoulder i turn and see Newt.

"Hey" he says "hey" "can we talk?" "yea sure" we walk over to  a area where there is some shelter from the rain and a table. 

We sit down facing each other "so what do you want to talk about?" "the kiss" I freeze what if he says it was a mistake and he doesn't like me "what about it?" I say trying to act relaxed like it dosent bug me even though it does "it was good and I just wanted to say that I um...." "Newt!!" someone shouts from behind us I can see its one of the galders "your needed by Alby now" they shout and Newt looks back to me.

"I got to go but I'll talk to you later" he says while standing up he looks back to me "meet me here after dinner okay" "yep" "cool" he says with a wink then he leaves.

I can't help but smile, but i'm nervous on what he will say.
