cause of being hospitalized; elly was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's disease at age 15, and visits the hospital regularly for checkups and meetings with a professional.
any machines/other medical equipment needed day to day?: nothing mechanical, but elly often needs a chaperone of some sort to watch her when she goes out alone in case she goes into a fog. her doctor also encouraged her to wear a wrist watch with alarms to remind her of important events in case she forgot.
in-patient or outpatient?: out-patient
personality; elly is a chipper and happy-go-lucky person on a day to day basis, drifting by lightly on the rocky waves of life. she never seems to take something seriously, and gets excited over the smallest of things. to her, she feels like she is in her own world, which gets a bit lonely sometimes, and often can't discern reality from her own imagination. elly gets distracted easily and wanders off when there isn't something captivating her attention, much to the displeasure of the person watching her. her personality seems to resemble a child more than a teenager, as she doesn't have a full grasp on situations and flits to and fro to wherever catches her fancy. sometimes elly might go into a 'fog', as people call it, where she wanders around aimlessly and does things that she would not remember later. her room is covered in sticky notes to remind her to put on her socks, brush her hair, wear her shirt with the tag in the back, etc. elly loves the patients in the hospital, and likes to interact with them before she gets pulled away to go to her meetings. one time, she brought some flowers for a small girl, but by the time she got there, she had forgotten what the flowers were for and handed them to the front desk nurse instead. she was very touched.
background; on both sides of her family, there have been Alzheimer's victims. her dad's great grandfather, and her mom's mother. this might have been why the gene had dominated in her early teen years instead of laying dormant. elly could not remember ever being able to be fully aware of what was going on, but most people attributed it to her ditziness and called it charming of her. as elly entered high school, her grades began to drop and she was worried that she couldn't even achieve a C on her tests. her parents got her a private tutor, but even that didn't seem to help. finally her parents decided to send her to a doctor to see if there was anything that was causing the lapses in memory. the doctor only dismissed it as stress and hormonal imbalances in puberty, and left it at that. elly worsened and began to forget what she was doing in the middle of doing it, and one day she locked herself in her room because a stranger was trying to call her down to breakfast. it was her mother. worried about their daughter, her parents tried to take her to a psychiatrist instead to see if there was anything wrong. elly took a mental examination, and the psychiatrist recommended her to a specialist, who after a couple of months of repeated testing and examinations, diagnosed her with Alzheimer's. elly began attending regular appointments at the hospital with the specialist, and has weirded out some people by visiting them once, then coming back next time and introducing herself again.
