cause of being hospitalized; epilepsy. jacob had been diagnosed with epilepsy in his childhood, but recently his medication has not been working and seizures are happening more often.

in-patient or outpatient?: out-patient, comes in occasionally either to try some stronger meds or on a stretcher after a bad seizure.
personality; jacob is either tired, angry, or both simultaneously. it's just the way he is. he is exceptionally smart, and he takes honors courses in school, and though he is snappy, he is surprisingly diligent with his work. he has a snide comment and a sharp retort ready for any situation, but this doesn't mean he taunts others without reason— just the people who annoy him. he has a dark sense of humor, and can connect with others if they catch him in a good mood— well, a better one that usual. jacob is never truly in a good mood. he doesn't believe in revenge, and only snaps back when he feels like it. as i said, he is angry or tired, sometimes pissy and sometimes done with life, and most times both. when you're friends with jacob, be prepared for a wild ride. he can call you a c-nt, talk about his feelings seriously, and say he's thankful for you coming into his life, most times in the same conversation. his epilepsy is a concern for him, but he tries to take his mind off of it by making insensitive jokes about it and avoiding talking about it seriously. he is most often conscious during his seizures, and the newer ones are longer and occur more often. he is switching between medications to try and control them again before he gets seriously or permanently injured.
background; jacob doesn't remember much about his life before the age of five. he was constantly skipping from foster home to foster home because none were equipped to deal with his epilepsy and never really made a connection with a family, but he doesn't blame them. at age five he was adopted by a gay couple and was raised by them. he grew attached to his dads and opened up to them. jacob was formally diagnosed with epilepsy at age seven and began taking some AEDs to control his seizures. he went into the hospital every so often to renew his prescription, and knows a few of the patients from his visits. he lived a fairly normal life until age sixteen, when he had his first seizure in years. they grew more severe and often, and jacob is currently rotating prescriptions to control his seizures, as he doesn't have the money to get surgery for it.
miscellaneous; •jacob often wears hoodies because he is always cold— his hands are icy to the touch •he loves chocolate, and often empties the hospital vending machine of the sweet treat. •his doctor recommended the group to him so that he could interact more and open up, but he was initially opposed until his dads convinced him it would be beneficial.
