HAYLEY AND I ENTERED ELIJAH'S STUDY. He was leaning over his desk with some sort of scroll in his hands, "So what's the plan?" I asked, "Cami's out there with the white oak and I'm not gonna lose another person that I care about"

"Niklaus can handle Camille," Elijah said, "Til then, I'll keep Aya distracted"

"Why don't you just kill her?" I asked.

"Or I'll do it," Hayley said, "After all she's the reason Jackson, Thalia and I got kidnapped"

"Aya and I have history," Elijah told us.

Hayley looked at him, confused, "They had a thing" I informed her.

"Aya was a towering intellect with an insatiable curiosity. Passionate, fearless, and something of an outcast" Elijah paused, "Long ago, I invited her to join a rather elite company. I determined she was perfectly tailored to bear the responsibility of an immortal life. I made her like me"

"She was one of the first Strix" Hayley stated.

"We cared for one another deeply. Together, we created a fellowship unburdened by the limitations of man. It was the pursuit of a glorious new world. And then, Father. . . led by that unquenchable desire to slay his children, Mikael descended, accompanied by a small army. He laid to waste everything that I built. We had no choice but to run"

"Aya did not. So, when Tristan found her, he rescued her. She, of course, came to see him as something of a savior. And, in time, beneath his corrupted guidance, they made the Strix what they are today— a hive of depraved and ignorant savages. She's never forgiven me.
I'm not entirely certain I've ever forgiven myself" Elijah finished.

"Well, given all that, how exactly do you plan on keeping her distracted?" Hayley asked.

"With a little salt in an old wound" Elijah answered.

"And we're to do what, while you're chasing your ex?"

"Perhaps you two could try taking your anger out in the gym Marcel built" Elijah suggested before he left.

KLAUS WHO HAD GONE TO GET THE KNIGHT BACK FROM CAMI, HAD FINALLY RETURNED. He was searching his study for the dark objects, making a lot of noise as he did so.

"Hey!" I entered the study, unhappy, "Are you serious? What's with all that noise?!"

Klaus turned to face me, "Oh, I'm sorry. Has my therapist's betrayal inconvenienced your otherwise tranquil day?"

"Our kids have been upset. They're still dealing with the fact that Jackson's gone. The only thing that calms Hope down is her favorite toy, which Cami stole to get back at you. If our daughter cries, her brother's gonna wake up and join her" I told him, "If you wake them up with all this slamming around, so help me, Cami will be the least of your problems"

"It pains me that they are upset. That our daughter is" His tone then turned sarcastic, "So, I'll add it to the long list of grievances I'm already tallying, hmm?"

Klaus returned to search for Cami's dark objects. I sighed, "I know that you're angry at Cami, Klaus, but you know as well as I do that she's not in her right mind"

"I beg to differ," He said, "Camille seems quite lucid, tucked away behind the barrier spell in the City of the Dead as she taunts me with the very means of my demise!"

HAYLEY AND I HAD ENDED UP IN THE BAYOU. I don't know why but I decided to go out there and I had asked her to come with me.

We were sitting on the dock with beer bottles and I was telling Hayley stories about Jack and I when we were younger

I laughed, "In conclusion, it was Aiden's fault that Jack came home at one in the morning with a broken leg and Mary—" I stopped myself. Mary. I hadn't talked to her since the day the Crescents got cursed again.

I couldn't help but wonder if she knew about Jack, I didn't see her at the funeral.

"Are you okay?" Hayley asked.

I sighed, "I need something to take my mind of this or else I'm gonna do things I'll regret. . . I can feel it"

"We could always fight. . . You know, we can go to Marcel's gym" Hayley suggested.

I scoffed, "Yeah and let him send the Strix there to kill us? I think not"

Hayley looked out at the lake, "You're really doubting your husband"

I sighed, "I'm not doubting him, Hayley, I just d—"

"You do realize that he's not going to let anything or anyone take you away from him, right?" She asked, facing me, "Not even that godforsaken prophecy or those stupid Strix. And he for sure won't let his psychotic ex touch you. . . again"

"He'll kill for you and to be honest, I think he'll die for you like you'd die for him"
