a/n: welcome to the second chapter of good in blue! i know i said this chapter would be longer, but it might not be. i'm sorry! our pairs ages are now 10 (y/n) and 11 (antonio)

⚠️TW: CANCER MENTIONS

antonio held the girl as she cried. sobbing and sobbing for seemingly hours upon end. he held her small figure close, whispering comforting phrases.

"it'll all be okay, y/n."

"she's in a better place now."

she held onto his shirt, tears spilling out of her eyes at an alarming rate. they stained her bright pink cheeks. she was in hysterics. it was hard to see her like this, a hyperventilating mess. in fact, it was the first time he'd ever seen her like this. it was all new to him. he'd never had to comfort someone like this before.

he couldn't imagine what she was going through. she watched her mother breathe her last breath. she watched her own mother die.

y/n was sat in the small, uncomfortable chair next to the hospital bed. she held her mother's hand as she slept, simply watching her breathing figure.

she could still remember the night her mom was diagnosed with leukemia. stage 4 chronic lymphocytic leukemia. the doctor had a flushed look as he quietly announced the heart wrenching news. y/n had no idea what it meant at the time, but she could tell from the look on her dad's face that it most definitely was not good news.

she was brought out of her thoughts by the heart monitor making a loud, jarring noise. the rest was practically a blur. doctors rushed in, and y/n was taken out of the room. she called for her mother, still being pushed away from the room.

her memory stopped there, and the next thing she could remember was her in the waiting room, with her father sitting next to her. he had tears falling down his cheeks. she was confused. why was her dad crying? was her mother okay?

antonio listened to the girl talk, telling her recalled memories of her mother's death. she had calmed down enough to speak, but her little hiccups were still present.

"it's gonna be weird not having her around. i-i'm gonna miss her a lot. she was my person i would go to for everything." she gave a small sniffle. antonio gave her a hug, which the girl returned. "it's just gonna be me and my dad." she paused. "and you, toni."

he smiled at her words. "yeah. and me." he pulled away from the hug and suddenly remembered something. "hey! my mom got us tickets to go watch the horses racing. do you feel good enough to come with?"

"you and your mom always go to the horse races." she giggled tiredly. "your name might as well be racetrack higgins." she thought for a second. "actually, that sounds kinda cool. racetrack higgins." the small girl hopped down from antonio's bed. her feet thumped against the hardwood floor.

"i think i'll start calling you racetrack from now on."

a/n: sorry this took so long to come out! i hope you enjoyed this chapter xx

i know i said this chapter would be longer, and im super sorry that it isn't. i've been busy with school and i've kind of had a bad writers block. i'll work harder from now on!
