The couple was silent for a minute and both just cried. “Baby, please don’t say that” Eric’s voice cracked and he coughed. “Listen to me, that couldn’t have been farther from the truth. It’s nothing like that at all and I’m so sorry that you think that” Audrey looked up at Eric and he was crying, she wiped his tears away “I’ve just been such an idiot and I wasn’t thinking about how you would feel. I have never felt more committed to you babe and to us, and yes the test tomorrow and the Choosing Ceremony has made that clearer” he leaned his forehead against Audrey’s and kissed the tip of her nose, she was just crying and hiccupping “This right here, this is what I want tonight, and tomorrow, and the day after that, and all the days after that, so please don’t ever doubt for a moment that I don’t love you because you’re the person I’d do anything and everything for and I really am sorry Audrey” he caressed her face with his thumb and she sighed “I don’t know Eric – I just have all these emotions going through me right now. I can’t –“ he grabbed her face and placed a gentle kiss on her lips “Please come with me. I want to get away from here, just me and you” Eric had the most adorable puppy eyes ever, as he wiped the tears off of her face; she looked away from him because she was reluctant at first, she just really wanted to get home, sleep this off and just do the tests, but she looked up again and Eric just looked so helpless and lost, Audrey didn’t have it in her to say no, she just nodded and he laced their fingers together. Just because she’s mad at the guy, doesn’t mean that she doesn’t love him anymore. Not at all.

As they made their way out of the Dauntless compound, neither of them said anything and both could feel the tension but they just kept walking, Eric leading the way and holding onto his girlfriend’s hand. They went all the way to the back of the compound and Audrey wondered where they could be going because they were going away from the train tracks so she assumed they would only be staying near the compound. Eric turned right and Audrey saw one of Max’s cars parked there and Eric was twirling the keys on his finger. “How did you –“ Eric didn’t let her finish, he just kissed her and said “I asked Max this morning because I wanted for us to be alone together, the night before the tests … I admit it took a lot of persuading but he did say yes in the end” Eric said as he opened the passenger side doors for Audrey. It was Max’s black pick up truck and this was the first time the two were driving out of the compound together, or even driving, period. Only leaders of the different factions, well all the leaders except those of Abnegation, had cars so this was a big deal for Eric to be able to drive. He got into the driver’s side and started the car. “Scared to drive baby?” Audrey teased her boyfriend playfully. “No, I’m not” he playfully rolled his eyes as he adjusted the rearview mirror “not that much” he smiled bashfully. “Aw, you’re full of shit babe” Audrey laughed “And just so we’re clear, I still don’t forgive you, I’m just here because of … girlfriend obligations” she looked away, trying to hide the smirk she had “Okay babe, whatever you say” Eric said as he kissed her and then he pulled away from the Dauntless compound. “Where are you actually taking me?” Audrey asked, Eric didn’t say anything he just smirked and turned on the radio and he put a portable drive in. “I guess you’re not gonna tell me huh?” Audrey asked, and Eric just shook his head and bopped his head to the song. “Is this 5 Seconds of Summer?” Audrey asked, “What else would it be? I’m still in my 5 seconds of summer vibe” Audrey couldn’t help herself so she burst out laughing “Oh my gosh, imagine what all the guys would think if they can see you now. Look at you, not having a care about listening to this band that’s from way far back in the past, even before the war” she continued laughing. Eric really enjoyed listening to music from the past, it was a thing of his. “Baby! This is girlfriend privilege right here, you’re the only one in the entire world that gets to witness this so don’t make fun of me” he huffed “I’m only teasing, big guy” she said as she nudged him and kissed his cheek. “Better be” Eric said as he pretended he was gonna bite Audrey’s hand and she squealed.
