Even if they were tired from their long day in Kansas, Hope and Eleanor never went to bed after Hope told Eleanor and Alaric about what they'd forgotten. Instead, as it reached 2AM, the two girls were still in the office with their headmaster. The Carter girl left for a while before the other students went to bed, to let Jacob, Ashton and Waverly know she was back and okay, and drop the urn off in the hiding spot she and Hope agreed upon. After it glowed earlier that evening, it was deemed best the urn was hid away in a safe place, so they could keep it from any monster that turned up to take it.
"How long do you think it'll be before the next monster shows up?" Hope mused, looking up from the book she'd been reading for research.
Alaric glanced up at them from his own book. "It's hard to say. I've never actually seen an artefact glow before." He rose a brow at the pair. "Where did you hide the urn, by the way?"
The two girls exchanged a look, before they looked back at Alaric. "We're not sure we should tell you." The Mikaelson girl admitted.
"Excuse me?"
"Isn't it safer that only one- well, two of us, knows where it is?" Hope pointed out knowingly.
Alaric nodded with a look of disbelief. "And one of them should be the adult."
"Funny, because I thought it should be the two of us with high level superpowers." Hope shot back, earning a look in response that made Eleanor snicker. "What do we tell everyone else? We should probably warn them before a cyclops crashes exam week."
Alaric looked thoughtful as he closed the book in his hands, moving to perch on the edge of his desk. "It's usually best to start with some form of the truth."
"What about those times the truth is the one thing you can't say?"
The question made the Saltzman man look between both goes warily. "Are you sure you want to keep all this from Landon and Raelynn? Landon especially. I mean, I understand you wanting to protect him, but..."
"Landon's been wondering about his mother his whole life." Eleanor pointed out. "I know what that feels like, and when he finally meets her, she dies. The differences between my Mom and his are vast, but if we can keep him from knowing what that kind of pain feels like..." She trails off, feelings Hope's fingers lace through hers. "It's worth keeping the truth between us."
Alaric sighs as he gives a nod, not pushing the subject further. "The trick is to give everyone the right amount of information without giving too much away." He told them both knowingly. "We've been through this before with the knife, so it shouldn't come as too much of a shock. This is our chance to do things differently, more responsibly."
After an emergency assembly was called, warning students there was a potential for more monsters to show up, the atmosphere within the school was mixed. For their safety, Dorian and Emma were evacuating the younger students to the Lockwood mansion, and the rest of the students had the option to join them if they wanted. In favour of getting at least a few hours of sleep, both Hope and Eleanor ditched the assembly and went to bed, before they joined Alaric to do more research the next morning.
"This happened to you in a nightmare?" Alaric was perched against his desk, as Hope and Eleanor sat either side of a flustered Rafael. He's came to them with a cut on his arm, an injury he'd got in a nightmare. "Are you sure?"
"Look, I know it sounds crazy." The Waithe boy began knowingly. "But I was studying and then I fell asleep, and then I just started dreaming about..." He trailed off, his eyes flickering discreetly between the two girls sat either side of him, their eyes focused on his arm.
