I showered and dressed before my alarm blared through my room announcing the time I usually woke. Turning it off, I turned and walked across the room glancing in the full-length mirror standing by the desk. I didn't remember it being there the day before, but I had been so frightened of the house and the Gage brothers that I probably didn't notice it.
I took in my reflection. My ebony hair fell long and straight to my waist. Dark eyeliner and eyeshadow surrounded my blue eyes making them more prominent in my pale face. My lips were painted in red so dark it was almost black. I wore one of my In This Moment band tees and black ripped jeans with my trusty combat boots. I appeared the same as I always did but so much had changed. It made me wonder why it wasn't marked on my skin.
I swallowed as my mind drifted over one of those changes. My stomach twisted. I was usually able to fade into the background and simply go to my classes with few people noticing me. Somehow, I didn't think that would be possible today. People would know I now lived with the Gage brothers and they always attracted attention. I sighed, shaking my head.
"It doesn't matter, Lanie," I whispered as anxiety crept over my skin. "Just go about your day as normal and ignore everything and everyone else."
A knock at my door made me jump. Nervous laughter bubbled up my throat as I glanced over my shoulder. "It's open," I said, turning to pick up my backpack.
The door opened revealing Jonathon, dressed in a pristine white shirt and jeans. His black hair was gelled and artfully arranged in spiked disarray, a grin slid across his face. "I thought you might want a ride to school." His green eyes sparkled as he noticed my hesitance. "I'll buy you breakfast."
"It's not steak, is it?" I asked, raising my brow. After all of the unwanted attention from the night before, I wanted to avoid the steakhouse.
"I'll let you pick," he rolled his eyes, swirling his key ring around his finger.
I smiled. "Brady's coffee." I grinned as I tried to imagine him in the dark surroundings of the coffee shop. "And I want to pick up Izzie on the way."
"Izzie Sutton?" He asked, wincing as I stood in front of him and nodded. "She always scowls at me. I think she hates me."
I smirked, amused. "Are you scared of Izzie?"
"Intimidated...Not scared," he said, shaking his head. "She's gorgeous but she always glares at me like she's going to bite my head off."
"She's sweet." I gave him a wide grin and patted his shoulder. "And she's only bit one person. They deserved it."
Jonathon's mouth dropped open, causing me to laugh. "I'm kidding," I moved past him deciding not to mention that she would do worse than a bite if she needed to fight someone.
As I stepped into the hallway, my eyes landed on Bastian's door. The memory from that morning drifted through my mind making me blush. I thought he was going to kiss me. It surprised me that I wanted him to.
