Separate Ways

Alex woke up as he normally did. He reached over the small desk for his glasses. He rose from his bed and got dressed as his girlfriend, Gracie, asked to meet up this morning. He fastened his d-ring belt and grabbed his stuffed his pockets with his keys and phone. He headed out of his unit and went to the local park, where they agreed to meet.

7 Minutes Later

Alex arrived and found Gracie sitting on a bench. She saw Alex and stood up to hug him.

Alex: Hey, how have you been?

Gracie: Alright, how did you match go yesterday?

Alex: It went great. I won.

Gracie: That's nice. 

Alex: So what was it that you wanted to talk?

Gracie: About that... you know I work as a consultant.

Alex: Right. 

Gracie: Well, there's this company in Italy that's given me an opportunity to work there.

Alex: That's amazing. How long will you stay there?

Gracie: Well, they want me there permanently. 

Alex: Oh... I see...

Gracie: Well, I want to see what you thought. 

Alex felt a sudden lump in his throat as he realized what she was leading. 

Alex: I mean... I wouldn't want to hold you back from an opportunity like this.

Gracie: I love you with all my heart and I'd do anything to stay with you. But... I might never get a chance like this again.

Alex: Do it!

Gracie: What!?

Alex: As much as it pains me to say but I think you should do it. This sounds like something that would benefit your career. 

Gracie: Are you sure?

Alex: Yes, as you are supportive of my career, it would only be fair for me to do the same. 

Gracie: Alex...

Alex: Go Gracie. I know how much it means to you and I don't want you to let it go because of me.
