Another long chapter (sorry, but enjoy!)
The entire weekend involves me slaving away at the frozen yogurt shop where I work part time. Usually it's only Saturday's and Sunday's but over the summer I practically lived there. It wasn't hard work or anything and I actually get free ice cream, but the manager is a total prude. She owned many of these little shops all throughout our county and had built herself a small fortune but now treated each of her employees as if we were less than dirt. Needless to say, when Monday rolled around I was somewhat glad that I wouldn't have to see her again for another five days.
Aunt Tess had Sunday off so after work we made dinner and watched Netflix together, more specifically, terrible movies on Netflix. It was sorta like our thing. We would find the worst movie we could find and watch it until the end all the while making fun of the horrible acting or bad lines. She had bugged me some about Jake and told me that I should invite him over but with a few stern looks she dropped the matter.
As I get ready for school, I slip on a pair of boyfriend jeans, a heather gray henley, and a pair of matching grey canvas shoes. I decide that I would put some effort into my look today both for myself and I'll be honest, possibly Jake. I straighten my hair and add a small braid on the side and then apply light makeup, even spritzing on a dash of perfume. A part of me was angry with myself at the fact that I allow a boy to take up my time and that I want to look nice for him, but my hands seem to have a mind of their own and before I know it I'm out the door with a granola bar held in place by my teeth.
Walking over to my car I hear Jake's engine start and I look over to see him wearing a pair of black chinos, a deep blue long sleeve t-shirt with the sleeves pushed up to his elbows, and a pair of white Adidas. He pushes his hair back and grins, offering me a wave. I swallow hard, trying to comprehend how someone could be so attractive.
"Want a ride to school?" he ask, pointing down at his Jeep. Not wanting to appear too desperate, I quickly shake my head no and get inside my beat-up car. He, being the gentleman that he is, waits for me to back out first and I quickly barrel my way down the road to Monroe.
Pulling in, I park in-between Caroline and Lee who apparently had gotten tired of waiting on me and has already headed towards their classes. Not really caring, I get out of my car and grab my backpack, slinging it over my shoulder. As I turn around, I find Jake pulling into the lot who quickly rolls down his window as he passed by me. "Wait up Carter," he asks/demands as he drives by. He easily finds a spot a few rows over and gets out before jogging over to me causing his hair to become slightly disheveled.
Biting my lip, I turn my head away from him, looking at the main building of the school so I wouldn't be creepy watching him as he nears. When I hear his pace slow, I turn back towards him and give him a friendly nod to play it safe.
"Hey," he says, returning the nod but looking probably twenty times cooler than I did. We walk in step through the parking lot towards our classes keeping about a foot in between us. "So I was wondering what you are doing Friday night?" he asks.
I look down at my feet and kick a small rock and feel my eyes slightly widen at his sudden question. "Um, I don't know. Probably nothing, why?" I ask, clenching the straps of my backpack. I have a feeling that he's was going to ask me to hang out and I already begin contemplating my answer when he replies.
"Well I heard Lane Pravinski is having a house party and I was thinking about going and was wondering if you wanted to come with," he says smoothly, as if asking girls out was both normal and easy for him
"Well it probably was," I think. I then begin to wonder how he even knew who Lane Pravinski was considering he was a senior last year and has since graduated. Instead of going off to college he decided to stick around and take a year or two off to help his dad at his auto shop. He had been pretty popular I suppose and we had shared gym together once but other than that I hardly knew him.
