"Relax!" I said, trying to calm down the upset woman covered with porcupine spines in front of me.
"How can I relax when I can't move!" She was quite angry.
"That's why I do this... now hold still," I told her as I rearranged the spines atop her head. Raina wore a black silk robe, the only thing loose enough to prevent her spines from hurting her. Once a week her spines get rearranged so she can move without stabbing herself. This is what happened to the other woman that we brought in a few days ago after terrigenesis.
"Raina!" Someone shouted from outside. The doors to Raina's dimly lit room flew open suddenly, making me jump slightly.
"Skye?" I asked, the room began to shake when she entered.
"Skye... isn't this... interesting..." Raina said, pulling the hood of her robe over her head.
"What happened to you?" Skye was furious, I wondered why I didn't see this in a vision.
"Destiny, apparently." She said with an attitude as she looked up at me. "I wanted to be set free, but now I can't even bare the light of day," Raina looked down at the floor from where she was sitting, not bothering to look at Skye. "I dread being awake," she continued sadly, "but my sleep is filled with such, horrible nightmares." Raina stood up, using the chair for support. "Children are so afraid of monsters... they should know it's worse to be one." Raina's eyes were yellow with small spines tracing her cheekbones and covering her forehead, getting larger at her hairline.
"You got what you deserved," Skye sneered, the quakes waning slightly as she calmed down for a moment.
"So did you," Raina shot back. Gosh dangit Raina, I thought as the quakes picked up again.
"I didn't deserve any of this! You did this to me!" She pointed at Raina accusingly.
"Skye," I warned, noticing stuff start to fall from the bookshelf in the corner.
"No, you have brought nothing but pain into my life! My father, the mist, my friend Tripp died in there because of you!" Skye struggled not to completely lose control as she spoke.
"I didn't make you follow me into that chamber, you wanted to go... you needed to go." Skye shook her head in denial, a couple books fell from the shelf and hit the ground with a thump. "Because we're the same, Skye," Raina walked towards her slowly, lifting her hands to her hood. "I am on the outside, what you are on the inside," Raina said through clenched teeth as she removed her hood, revealing her spines to Skye.
"No!" Skye shouted angrily. The room stop shaking completely and Raina fell to her knees.
"So that's what you are," Raina said as Skye directed all of her power onto her. Raina groaned in pain as Skye continued.
"Alright you need to stop," Lincoln tried to persuade her away before she killed Raina.
"No, end my nightmares!" Raina pleaded, she was physically shaking now. I went up to Skye, trying to convince her to stop.
"Don't make me do this," I warned, glancing at Lincoln. Raina struggled to breathe. "I'm sorry," I whispered, going over behind Skye. My hand held a glowing blue sphere as I pulled energy from the fourth dimension and set it against Skye's back. She fell over, instantly passed out. Lincoln caught her before she hit the ground. I crouched next to Raina, helping her up and to the wooden chair in the corner. Lincoln carried the unconscious Skye back to her room while I followed.
