As I look up at the large intimidating doors of my new school, the initial anxiety of being the "new girl" sets in. I have no friends, no idea how to get around, and no stability. Moving to a new town is never easy, I know that from experience. In the past two years, I've moved more times than I have in my entire life. Living with my Aunt Juniper can be difficult at times since her job on a cruise ship leaves me alone a majority of the time and also makes us move around. A lot. She's only about seven years older than I am, me being 17 and her 24, and she's more like a friend than a guardian. I'm more happy living with her than I have been in a long time, but moving around makes my life a living hell at times. I've started at new high schools five times since living with her, but now we've finally gotten the chance to settle down. Due to a new promotion, Aunt June has received, we've been allowed to finally choose between a couple locations where we would settle down for good if we saw fit. The two of us had decided on a small beach town in California. We'd found a nice three bedroom house near the beach, and the schools weren't insanely huge or unsafe. It was perfect.
A wave of chilly air hits me as I walked through the complete glass doors of the high school and silently thank myself for throwing on a large grey sweater over my white t-shirt and bringing a warm cup of coffee to school. I make my way to the office, which thankfully isn't too far from the main entrance, and step towards the front desk.
"Hi, my name's Teagan Miller," I say through a smile. "It's my first day." An older looking woman smiles back at me and begins sorting through a stack of papers.
"Hello Teagan," She responds sweetly. "Welcome to Creston High School! Here's your schedule, a map of campus, and a list of clubs and activities that we offer here. We hope you have a wonderful first day and don't be afraid to stop by if you need anything. My name is Beatrice." I thank her and walk out of the office taking a look at my classes. I have history first, then chemistry, calculus, English, and French. Luckily my two last periods are free. I examine the map that Beatrice handed to me and look for room D102, where my history class will start in about ten minutes. My heart drops as I realize just how directionally challenged I am, and that the map makes absolutely no sense. I start walking up and down the hallways, I get a few stares from other students along the way, probably wondering who I am, but I continue walking and keep my head down low in order to avoid speaking with anyone. I cannot read this fucking map for the life of me. I look down at it again, hoping I'll have some kind of revelation and suddenly be able to make it to class on time, but before that happens, I walk into something rock hard. No, not something, someone.
"Holy shit! I am so sorry!" I gasp as I observe the boiling hot coffee that I've just spilled all over his white t-shirt. When I look up I'm met with a pair of stormy grey eyes. Our eyes meet and I can visibly see the color of his eyes darken.
"Are you fucking serious right now?" He basically yells, causing all of the other people in the hallway to look at us. I hear a couple gasps throughout the crowds. There goes laying low.
"I'm so sorry I wasn't paying attention. I was just looking at this map I didn't even see you." I rush.
"Well, maybe you should watch where the fuck you're going!" Even though this stranger is angry, I can't help but notice just how gorgeous he is. His messy dark brown hair compliments his stormy colored eyes perfectly, and I can almost imagine the perfectly sculpted body laying living under his t-shirt. He's a lot taller than me, which isn't difficult to accomplish since I'm only 5'5, but he's got at least 8 inches of height more than I do. "You gonna say something bitch?" The fury seeps throughout his words, knocking me out of my daze. Now I'm getting angry.
"Did you just call me a bitch?" Something flashes in his eyes when I say this, but he doesn't reply, only making me angrier. "Look, I'm really, really sorry that I spilled some coffee on your expensive white shirt that your daddy bought for you, but I'm gonna have to ask you to fuck right off. I'm just trying to get to class, and I tried to apologize so if you aren't gonna accept that then I'm gonna leave so I can avoid dealing with your whiny ass any longer." With that, I turn on my white sneakers and walk away. I can hear some students snickering behind me, but I continue on looking for my classroom.
