The next few days had gone pretty smoothly. Gray and I had done a good job of staying friendly toward each other, I hadn't seen any strangeness between him and Maddie, and I had an algebra test Thursday. Nailed it. (A/N name the movie hehe) I walk into my last class on Friday and make my way to my usual seat next to Grayson. I hear the bell ring as I sit down next to him and give him a sweet smile. Our teacher walks in and starts talking about some assignment that'll be due in two weeks. I'm mostly zoning out until I hear something along the lines of "You'll be working with your table partner." My stomach drops while I look over at Gray, who shrugs calmly, sporting his stoic exterior per usual. I, on the other hand, am positive that I look like I'm going through a mid-life crisis right about now. Fortunately Gray doesn't seem to notice, but the prospect of having to hang out with him, alone, again gets me all kind of nervous. I can handle seeing him around school and having a casual conversation, but I wasn't so sure about in a private setting. The teacher continues to talk about the details of the project while my anxiety eats away at the inside of the brain.

The stool underneath me squeals against the ground as I stand up from it quickly as soon as the bell rings. I sling my backpack over my shoulder and rush out of the classroom, hoping to avoid the problem that is Grayson Williams. My locker clicks open and I'm shoving some books inside when I hear a voice next to me.

"So you're back to avoiding me now." A blush creeps into my cheeks as I turn to face Gray who is leaning on the lockers to the left of me. I tuck a strand of hair behind my ear and play with the sleeves of my jean jacket.

"Um... No! Of course not. I was just... You know?" My mind goes blank and I curse myself for being so awkward sometimes.

"Mmmhmm." Gray nods. "So when are we gonna work on this project? I think we could finish it in a couple of hours." I nod, agreeing with him, even though I have no idea what the project has to do with.

"Um, how about Monday? Just forget about it for the weekend." I smile. Hoping he'll agree with me.

"I can't on Monday."

"What do you mean you can't Monday? Who has plans for a Monday night?" I ramble.

"I just can't, okay? How about we just do it tonight?" My heart stops in my chest. I was really hoping I could avoid this for a while, but I have no excuse as to why I couldn't tonight.

"Um, okay sou- sounds good." I force out.

"Okay." Gray says drawing out the "O" and giving me a strange look.

"So like right now?" I ask. Gray's about to respond when someone says my name quietly behind me. I jump at least two feet in the air and glare at Gray, who is attempting not to laugh, before I turn around.

"What?" I snap at a tall, black-haired boy wearing a letter jacket and standing next to my locker.

"Sorry to interrupt." He says smoothly, clearly not phased by my tone of voice. "Just wanted to let you know that we're having a party at my house tonight. Everyone will be there. You should come." I narrow my eyebrows at him, confused as to how he knows me, but respond quickly.

"Um, okay. Thanks for the invite." I plaster on a fake smile and watch as he walks away before turning back to face Gray, who has a skeptical look on his face.

"You know it's not a good idea to go to that party right?"

"Yeah, I do. Thanks, Mom." I close my locker. "I'm not dumb you know." The two of us head down the hallway towards the parking lot.

"I'm just looking out for you, okay? Either way that party is gonna be stupid. Totally not worth going." I nod at him agreeing.

"Okay, enough party talk. Let's just get this project done." I tell him.

Gray and I arrive at my house in his car, since he insisted on driving, and walk into the doorway. I walk into the kitchen and set my books on the table, and Gray does the same.

"Do you want anything to drink?" I ask him while grabbing a glass of water for myself.

"I'm alright, thanks." He tells me and then sits down at the table. I follow soon after and flip open my chemistry notebook. "So I was thinking you could just do parts 1 and 2 and I'll do 3 and 4 and we'll get everything done in no time."

"Um, yeah, sounds good. Mind reminding me what I need to do for parts 1 and 2?" I question cautiously.

"Were you paying attention in class at all?"

"Maybe not?" It comes out as more of a question than a statement and Gray gives me a cheeky grin before explaining the details of the project to me. After that, we get to work. It's surprisingly not as awkward as I originally thought it would be. Gray and I bounce ideas off of each other, and we actually make a pretty good team.

It's around 8:30 PM and I'm about to finish the second portion of my work when a string of dings sound from Gray's phone. He looks at it quickly and then sets it back down. A couple more minutes pass before his phone starts buzzing and ringing as if someone is calling him.

"You gonna get that?" I ask with an eyebrow raised.

"Nope."

"Why not?"

"The better question is why you are being so nosy." He looks up at me for a moment and then goes back to his work. The phone finally stops ringing, but as soon as it stops it begins to sound a ringtone again.

"Okay seriously just pick up the phone it's getting annoying." he shoots a small glare at me and then grabs his phone in defeat.

"What the fuck do you want Aron?" Why was he ignoring his friend? "No, I'm not coming right now." He pauses for a second as I assume Aron says something on the other end of the line. "Dude no." Another pause. "Alright fine give me 15 minutes." He hangs up the phone and sets it on the table quickly.

"What was that all about?" I push him further.

"Nothing." He says shortly. I shrug as he stands up, handing his papers to me. "Those are done. You can read over them and add anything if you want. I have to go." I get up from my spot across from him and follow him towards the door.

"Wanna tell me where you're going?" I press.

"Nowhere Teagan."

"Well, obviously you're going somewhere because Aron told you to go somewhere and you told him 'Fine 15 minutes'." I mimic his deep voice. He's about to open the door when suddenly it all clicks. "Wait you're totally going to that party, aren't you? You really thought you were gonna go without me. What a great 'friend you are'." He turns around and faces me.

"Will you stop being so pushy if I take you with me?" I grin at him. "Alright then go put something besides leggings on." He rolls his eyes as I take off up the stairs.
