The next couple of days I go to school, as usual, this time making sure not to park in the wrong spot. Although I am a bit nervous about Whitney or Luca talking to me, I feel like I can handle myself. I'm really not that emotional of a person when it comes to things like girls yelling at me, and I feel a bit more secure knowing that I have a couple of friends to cling to during the day. That Friday I head into history class and sit in my normal spot next to Maddie.
"Teagan! Where were you at lunch yesterday?" Maddie questions me. I remember that I forgot to tell my friends where I was going yesterday.
"I totally forgot to text you guys. I went to lunch with Aaron and Gray." Maddie's eyes widen.
"What?" She says a little quieter.
"Yeah, and did you know that Leila is dating that Liam kid?"
"Yes of course. They've been dating for almost seven months now." She sounds a bit upset.
"Well, I was unaware." I notice her normally smile has been replaced with a frown. "Everything okay?"
"Yeah." She replies shortly. "Well, no not really. The truth is that I've had a crush on Gray forever now. It just makes me kinda upset even thinking about him." My stomach drops. Why is my life so filled with drama at this school? Whatever part of me hoped that Gray and I could turn into anything other than friends has to go away. I know in my heart that Gray is just another guy and that I should never do that to Maddie. I don't think Gray really sees me in that way either way though.
"Oh," I say and direct my attention to the front of the classroom where our teacher is talking about the civil war.
I sit down in chemistry and watch as Gray sits down beside me.
"Hey," he says in a deep tone.
"Hi." I reply shortly.
"Everything okay?" I realize just how attentive he is as he asks me.
"Yeah just struggling a little with this class." Which isn't a complete lie. I am struggling in chemistry, but that's not the reason why I'm a little off.
"I can tutor you if you want." I scoff.
"You?"
"What's wrong with me tutoring you?" He smirks. I notice his perfect smile again, and can't help but check out the beautiful boy sitting next to me.
"I'm sorry am I missing something?" He just looks at me with a hard expression. "What's your grade in this class?"
"A ninety-nine."
"See why wou- Wait what?" He laughs.
"Not as dumb as I look huh?" He laughs. I groan. He has perfect grades, perfect hair, perfect teeth, he's nice. Is there anything he can't do right? I look up at the front of the class and curse whatever created Grayson Williams.
The rest of the day is pretty uneventful, and I head out to my car when lunch starts, explaining to the girls that I've got some homework to catch up on. I walk out of the school and thank myself for wearing leggings and a sweatshirt today, it's pretty chilly outside. I hug my arms close to myself and walk the short distance to my car. I'm pulling out my keys when I hear a voice I recognize call out.
"Hey, Teagan." I turn around quickly while still searching for my keys in my bag. I see Luca's large figure walking towards me slowly. "I wasn't too happy about your boy punching me like that."
"Stay the fuck away from me." I growl.
"Ouch Teagan. I would expect a little respect from you considering you were all over me last weekend."
"We both know that isn't true." I manage to hold my voice steady.
"Hmmm, should we retrace our steps then, see who's right?" Luca suggests.
"I'm gonna ask you nicely to stay away from me. Please." I beg.
"Where's the fun in that?" Luca smirks evilly.
"You don't get a broken nose." I breathe a sigh of relief as I hear Gray walk up beside me. "You know you're really getting on my nerves, Luca. She asked you to leave her alone." Luca seems to hesitate a moment before putting back on his snarky exterior.
"Like I said before Gray: stay out of it. This little bitch is a liar." I see Gray tense, and in an instant, he swings his arm back and punches Luca right in the nose. I gasp.
"I'm really getting tired of your shit." He spits out at a bleeding Luca and grabs my hand. "Let's go." The rage that was previously embedded in his voice has disappeared as he leads me to his car. I hop in the passenger seat while Gray gets in beside me and starts to pull out.
"What the fuck Grayson?"
"First of all, don't call me Grayson. Second of all, that fucker deserves it."
"Maybe, but you didn't need to do that. He doesn't deserve the effort."
"Trust me, it didn't take much effort." He smirks. I look down at his hand sitting on top of the dashboard, the knuckles are bloodied and bruising already. I grab his hand instinctively.
"Fuck. You're bleeding." I say while he pulls his hand out of my grip.
"It's nothing."
"Come on. I can stitch you up at my house."
"Serious-"
"Seriously, go to my house." Gray makes a right turn and heads towards where my house is located. We arrive about two minutes later and I lead the two of us toward the front porch and unlock the door. "Wait in the kitchen. I'll go grab the first aid stuff." I start walking up the stairs and into the guest bedroom where we keep a couple of medical supplies. I shrug off my sweatshirt and am left in a grey t-shirt. I'm doing my best to keep my calm knowing that one of the hottest boys I've ever seen is downstairs in my kitchen, but I grab the first aid supplies and head back downstairs to find Gray leaning on the island.
"Here, give me your hand." He turns toward me and follows my directions as I stand next to him. I grab his hand gently and use a wet rag to clean off some of the excess blood before wiping the cuts with some alcohol pads and throwing some bandages on the wounds. I start to let go of his hand, but he grabs onto mine before I can and pulls it closer to his face. He turns my hand over in his a couple of times, looking at the still apparent bruises on my wrists.
"I'm sorry I wasn't there earlier, I should've never let you go alone into the house, I knew that Luc-."
"Let's not talk about Luca, okay? What's happened has happened, I'm just glad you got there when you did." He smiles half-heartedly at me. I don't know Gray well, but I've gathered how important it is to him to protect the people he cares about. I just don't know how I got into that category.
"Yeah." He lets go of my hand. "So you're still going to the lagoon tomorrow right?"
"I think so," I respond.
"Just do me a favor." he smiles. "Don't get into any trouble."
