Chapter 6

"Faster, go faster Kana!" Nina called. Kana gave a tiny shake of his head, as if to roll his eyes, with a few mighty gusts of his powerful wings they picked up speed. Nina grinned, exhilaration prickling her skin. The wind whipped her hair back out of her eyes, and She saw everything with crystal clarity. It was as if time had stopped and was waiting just for her. She held a spear tightly in her grasp, and found her makeshift target far across the valley. She hitched her spear up onto her shoulder, and carefully perched onto Kana's back, slowly and carefully balancing to nearly standing. Her goal was simple, hit her target while in flight, try not to loose her balance and fall to her death.
Her fingers tightened on the spear shaft, and the target loomed large in front of her now. She leaned forward over her bent knee, felt the spear tilt into a moment of perfect balance . . . and threw. The slender missile arced through the air like a deadly bird of prey, black against the dawn. Nina held her breath.
"A hit!" Not perfect but would deal a deathly blow to flesh and blood. She seated herself back onto her bird once more silently celebrating and guided him back to the ground. She had been practicing all morning, it was time to give her companion a break.
Landing she praised her bird and removed the makeshift harness she used for grip and sent him off to do as he willed. She startled as Tatsu walked up behind her.
"Such things as flying on that messy bird will get you killed." He balked.
She smiled up at him. "Such things are no longer dangerous when you do not fear death."
"Aye spoken like a true warrior." At that moment he picked her up and threw her over his shoulder, causing her to shriek in protest.
"Put me down you over grown brute." Her little fists pounded on his back which he paid her no mind. And just like that Nina found herself tossed into the cool water of the lake. She surfaced sputtering, and glaring through loose wet hair. "You are terrible." She could hear him laughing now.
She climbed out of the water and jumped at him, which he effortlessly skipped away. She mock ran to the right causing him to duck left just as she did. She jumped upon his back and put a chokehold on him. They scuffled playfully until interrupted by the newly arrived young bloods. They laughed as they seen their leader stooping to "play". Tatsu straightened up and placed Nina to the ground, turning he walked into the ship without a word.
"Nina has leader playing like a pup." Endymion teased. Nina punched him in the shoulder in response. The two Youngblood's began to laugh but were interrupted by Tatsu reappearing calling them to the control room. They all followed and listened to a broken transmission. Nina stared in horror....humans.

"...quest emergency... om any... receiving..."
A frantic man's voice, barely audible but clearly frantic through the blank spots and hissing static, whispered into the small room. Nina stayed tensed, straining to make out the message.
"...peat... land/Yutani...help..."
Weyland/Yutani, a name she hadn't thought of in years. The Company.
She caught the word, "Repeat," clear as day, and then there was a sharp, crackling pop-and the soft voice was gone. Her eyes drifted up to Tatsu's intense gaze, she could see curiosity sparked behind them.
The Youngbloods became hyped. "Leader....hard meats? The possibility of us to become marked!" The idea to become blooded tickled the young's fancy. They pleaded for the opportunity to investigate. Tatsu stood staring off deep in thought. Nina could tell the Yautja curiosity was definitely there, they enjoyed investigating on others tragedies...the idea of the serpents being connected with the company wasn't far fetched at all.
"It wouldn't hurt to look." Nina chimed in with a shrug.
After several silent moments Tatsu finally answered. "Aye, I'm curious." He sat down at the control panels and began pinpointing location.
The Youngbloods clicked and clacked in excitement.

Sitting quietly in his seat he checked multiple scans. One caught his attention, sitting forward he listened closely. "...quest emergency... om any... receiving...
...peat... land/ Yutani /help."
His mandibles flared, Weyland/Yutani.
"Find the coordinates of that signal." He barked at Concador. "That's where we will find her."
Sitting back in his seat he Wahkan smiled. He was confident he was going to find his mate, no more running.
