Why?

Why, was not the only question I had. The questions were as many as the drops in a glass full of water.

How???

It's highly impossible!

It can't be her.

Well, it is her.

Jane Woods Raydon.

Yes.

My cousin sister is here, I wasn't at all expecting her to be here in Sydney, let alone my fricking company.

But wait, she had the same last name as...ALEX, yeah Alex my best friend. Which clearly meant they are legally a couple now.

Ex-best friend you mean?

Shut up!

It was your decision!

Whatever.

And before I knew my cheeks were damp from all the unshed tears that made their way out when I looked at her grown-up face in the passport size picture.

Jane looked as pretty as ever, she had bangs now and her cheeks looked fuller.

I wiped away the tears feeling nostalgic. Wondering how time changes.

The question is, how could I face her?

Without crying.

She will recognize me in one go.

Your looks are far from how you were, Emily.

Alright, then the moment I speak, she'll know.

You're American accent's long gone.

Fine but I know, I wouldn't know what holding back tears are when I'll see her right in front of my eyes!

But wow.

The fact that he actually married her is astonishing.

I knew he liked liked her. Major crush and all of that, he even started dating her. But LOVE? I didn't see that happening. He was the Alex I studied with, who was my best friend, my classmate, my homie, who I trusted with all my secrets and dark sides, who promised he'd be there for me no matter what. But I still didn't see him fall so hard for my own cousin.

You and good judgments are two worlds.

You're not wrong.

Flashback

Outgoing call... Alex

"Hey, Alex.." I spoke as soon as he took the call.

"Hellooo Emms, how are you?" His voice, brimful of excitement. I have too many nicknames for my own good.

"I'm ok, how are you?" I asked him in a pitiable voice, I felt horrible after breakfast today. I lost my appetite and mood to study but I still managed to complete my studies not wanting to score low.

"Hey, you sound nearly dead. Everything alright?" NOO! I'M NOT. I NEED SOMEONE WITH ME. I'M SAD AND DISTURBED. I wanted to scream it out as loud as I could but all I managed to say was;

"Yeah, everything's fine. Just a little...sick." I lied. I can't spoil his jaunty mood just because I'm not in one.

"Ahuh, wait for me, I'll be there in 5" with that he hung up on me.

Woah. Ok.

He is such a typical best friend.
