I decided to take a seat in the back of the classroom before everyone else bombarded their way in the large room. The teacher, Mrs. Diane, took at least 20 minutes of the class period telling us our expectations and what we're going to learn for the next 10 months. I immediately regretted the decision I made. The teacher's voice is so quiet I couldn't hear a word she said. Lucky for Don, he sat up front.
And then we had permanent shoulder partners. I look to my left, and to my surprise, no one sat there. But then to my left and I see a hyena right next to me. Great, just perfect. I asked him his name and the response is "My name's Jakob. I hope this shoulder partner shit works out." Yeah me too Jakob. He had very dark blue eyes, which didn't surprise me at all, but very different shades of brown and grey. For the remaining 15 minutes, we just spoke to "learn more about your partner". Psssh it wasn't a requirement but I talked to him anyway.
"Soooo I'm Jack." I say wanting to get this period over with.
"Good to meet you Jack," he replied ".....I honestly don't want to be here...at all"
"Yeah me neither. It feels like 15 minutes hasn't even started yet" I say sighing and grab the few papers I received and put them in my bag, I see Jakob do the same.
Jakob shook his head grinning and said, "God I just noticed we're going to be talking like this a lot since we're partners"
I nod my head, "yep just hopefully not too often" I say and give him my number, "you're gonna need this for when we have assignments and projects."
He nodded and from the looks of me it seemed like he moved a little closer to me. It made me a bit suspicious but its stupid to get worried over small things. "I'll see you," I look at the clock, "later Jakob." I said getting up and heading out of the door just to catch up with Don in time. Just before I left I saw Jakob wave good-bye to me. "Well Science is going to be hell." Don said walking beside me. "You're not telling me anything I don't know." I tell him and shake my head, "super awkward conversation with a hyena. Who turns out to be my partner." I add. Don just laughed, "wow must be hard for you. Well see you later Jack." he said before running across the hallway to his class.
