your best chance is to forget the time
and focus on the road.
the more you glance at it (fluorescent blue across
your dark console)
the slower the early minutes will creep by.
turn up your music
do your best to sing along
this beat is your lifeboat
in the foggy haze of your road
(you should know that the clearer
the night, the hazier your road.
the fog lives in your head behind
your eyes and clouds what is real).
do your best not to close your eyes
keep away the feeling of safety
(you are not safe yet).
do your best to hold onto the memory
of where you are coming from.
don't be afraid to let the
the feeling of a cold car and a warm boy
be the thing that keeps your
mind alert.
