Rest Stop

once upon a journey long
I took a turn, I took a twist
and ended up where things
had gone amiss

daylight graced her so unwell
Midnight's shadows more clearly suited
what is now a florescenct shell
or perhaps a name more fitting
what once was sanctuary I now call hell

I asked for your name
remembering your fingers wrapped in mine
I looked for you, not with longing, but in vain
not a tear did shed my eye

not questioning this strange crossing
not giving it another thought
until your letter arrived to me late
was this just another startling coincidence?
or something more, that bears the name of fate?
