The first thing that happened when you arrived at the palace this morning was the guard escorting you to the King's quarter. It was sudden because your meeting with him wouldn't happen for a few more weeks. Nonetheless, you followed them because what else could you do.

You did wonder if the Prince had talked to him about his, what should you call it, 'proposal' to you. It had been a couple of days since then. You haven't been able to stop thinking about it, how could you. After your day off, you hadn't seen him as he was in meetings in place of the King. But the King had gotten back late last night, and should be getting some rest. You were curious why he would want to see you and not spend time with his family first.

The usual guard wasn't there at his post when you arrived at the front door, but the ones that were with you told you to go in. It felt unnatural. You knocked, the sound of the wood echoed.

"Come in." said the King. You bowed to the guard before taking a step inside. He sat at the sofa instead of his work station. There were two tea cups laid out, you could see the steam coming out from them.

"Your Majesty, you called for me?" you did your bow. He gave you an inviting smile and gestured for you to sit across from him.

"Some Jasmine tea for you." he said.

"Thank you very much." you said, picking up the tea cup carefully. Your finger feeling the golden designs on it. "I don't mean to sound rude, your Majesty, but shouldn't you be getting some rest right now?"

"This old man can handle a conversation, don't worry." he chuckled loudly. It's the sound you imagined a father would give a daughter when she makes a clever comment. How warm it must be.

"I did not mean any offense with that."

"Don't worry, I'm not mad. I actually have something very important to talk to you about." He laid the tea cup down with urgency, causing you to do the same. He leaned forward, you could see his decaying state. "Y/N, I don't have much time to live." You gasped while he seemed unfazed.

"Your Majesty, please don't say such things. The people of the country are all praying for you."

"Thank you for saying that. You're very kind. But be honest, you were upset with me about the Prince's marriage, am I wrong?" asked the King, he gave you a playful smile that you didn't know how to interpret.

"Your Majesty, I wouldn't dare be upset with you. You know what's best for the country and the Prince." You lowered your head, avoiding his gaze. So the Prince must have mentioned something to the King, or else he wouldn't have spoken of this.

He chuckled tirely. "When I made the announcement, I made sure to add the noble part just for you." You jumped a little in your seat, still unable to look at him, so you looked at his tea cup instead.

"What do you mean, your Majesty?" you asked slowly. From what he said, it could mean that he added that part to make sure the Prince wouldn't be able to marry you. And if that was the case, then it meant the King really does look at you the way his brother does. You frowned, you could feel your eyes stinging.

"Y/N, what if I tell you you're not who you think you are?" he asked.

"Then who would I be?"

"The Moon daughter." he declared. You felt your body being lifted by an invisible force and numbing you. The outside world slowly faded away and it was only the man in front of you and you. But who are you at this point.

"Your Majesty, you must be joking. Because that would mean I'm the..." Your voice grew more quiet, it almost came out as a whispered.

"That's right, you are the lost princess, Moon Byul Yi and the rightful ruler of this nation." His voice was loud and clear, you were almost afraid that the guards from outside would burst in and arrest you. But nothing happened.

"But how? It can't be. My parents died in a car crash." You shook your head in denial, your head pounding. The room began to grew smaller, it was like that night. Smoke filling the air.

"Aside from her surname, the daughter was called the moonchild because of the crescent mark on her shoulder. Through your blouse, you could feel your birthmark burning, and your hand automatically went to touch it.

"My parents died in a car crash." you whimpered, tears already falling.

"That's what I told your caretaker to tell you so you wouldn't be in any danger if you knew the truth."

"The truth? And how did you know me, your Majesty?"

"Please don't call me that. I don't deserve you to be so kind to me." He lowered his head into his hands and began weeping. "I'm the reason why your parents were killed. If it wasn't for me, you would be together with your parents, and you wouldn't have been so lonely all those years." This time, he sounded further away. You were no longer in his quarter, but you were back at the fire. The memories of that night suddenly so clear.

"You were the one that saved me, right?"

He looked stunned when you asked, but nodded his head. You closed your eyes, envisioning that night. Your body lifted out of the crumbles by a frail man. When you arrived at the step of the orphanage, you were too frightened to say anything. And eventually, you blocked all memories of what had happened. "It was all that I could do for you, but I don't have that power. I secretly looked after you and send you to school. I wish I had done more. I wish I could have brought you into the palace for the life you deserved."

"What do you mean you don't have that power?" you frantically asked.

"The rumors were right. There is someone else behind the scenes pulling the strings. And that person had sent the assignment for the murder of your parents." You gasped quietly, unable to produce any sound. "If they know who you are, you will be endangered, and so will my family." He leaned in closer and whispered, every word made your heart pounded more.

"Oh no, Ha Eun, the Prince! Who is this? Who is doing all of these horrible things?" you asked. Then everything had happened so quickly. The King's eyes widened as he screamed in agony. He reached for his neck where a blade had dug its way deep inside of him. Blood poured out slowly like honey. After 3 seconds, his scream stopped and he fell to the floor, face down. His eyes were still opened, as if he felt unjust.

"Oh no, he talked too much."
