The creaking of the kitchen door meant she was closing it, cutting off the light in the room - resulting in darkness once again. So that I didn't fall down the ladder, I got my phone and shone the torch down on the steps.
Carefully, I climbed down hoping they wouldn't make a loud creaking sound and wake anyone else up.
As I got to the kitchen I slid my phone into the pockets of my joggers then slowly opened the door - I squinted my eyes as they readjusted to the bright yellow light.

"I'm sorry did I wake you?" Alexis said as she turned around after placing a teabag in her mug.
"No, it's alright I was already awake," I explained.

"You couldn't sleep either I'm guessing?" She asked.

"Yeah but actually it kind of works out in my favour as I've been meaning to talk to you," I replied as the nerves started kicking in and my fingers got drawn to the rings upon my hands.

"Okay, I have too," She said making me slightly confused.

"You wouldn't mind making me a tea as well would you?" I asked with a smile as I tried to act more like myself.

"It would be my pleasure," She replied reaching for another mug out from the cupboard.

We decided to sit on the kitchen floor with our cups of tea before we started our conversation.

"I'll let you go first," I said wanting to hear what she had to say incase it impacted mine in anyway.

"Okay well, I don't totally know if this is the right decision but It's all that has been on my mind so I have to get it out there one way or another." She started, in which I nodded in response.

"So," she said before taking a deep breath.

"On the way back from the meal with your family - who are genuinely some of the nicest people I've met by the way," she explained making me smile.

"As you know I fell asleep cause I was beyond tired, but I woke up and didn't open my eyes just as you were speaking about me, I didn't know whether to confront you about it or if I should wait for you to tell me in your own time, however I didn't want to have to lie or keep it from you if you get what I mean."

I nodded, "well I suppose that doesn't matter as much right now as thats what I came in to tell you."

She looked up at me with her glistening blue eyes and suddenly my heart was full with hope instead of sadness and doubt.

We stayed quiet for a few seconds.

"I like you, but not just a little bit. I genuinely really like you," I explained looking across to the girl sat opposite me leant on a washing machine wearing a baggy t-shirt and her hair wrapped in a messy bun, not a brush stroke of makeup in sight.
"I know its most likely not the ideal place for me to tell you this in your opinion, on the kitchen floor, me in nothing but a pair of joggers and you with no makeup on when you think you are looking your worst. But in fact, to me this is the best place as it shows I like you for who you are, no matter what you are wearing, no matter how ugly you may look," I continued, the ending making her laugh.
"I like you for you and thats what matters." I finished.
Displayed on Alexis' face was a huge gorgeous smile.
All my nerves were long gone now.
"So, shall we give it a go?" I asked , "that's probably one of the most informal ways of asking but there hasn't been much formality to this so I'm gonna carry on."

"Sure, lets 'give it a go'," she replied in a cockney accent making us both laugh.
We both stood up, I took the mug from her hand and placed it in the sink along with mine. I then pulled her in for a hug. I wrapped my arms around her back, pulling her into my chest as I rested the side of my head on the top of hers. We stayed like that for a minute or so, appreciating the warmth of one another's embrace.
