Hajime's Third Person P.O.V.
"You're the author."
Hajime's throat became parched, the words he wanted to say were stuck at the back of his throat.
How could this have happened? Magic wasn't real. Was someone else playing with him?
The stranger sighed in annoyance.
"I guess I have to explain everything from the start now. My name is Izuru Kamakura, the human form of all your guilt and regrets. You were hit by a slow moving car, and that somehow triggered your memories from your past life. Since you had such a despair filled life, the universe decided to tale pity on you, granting you a second life. However," He paused, looking to see if Hajime had any reaction to this.
The brunette was still dumbfounded.
"However, since everything came with a price, the universe made you become bound to a book. This book right here." He picked up the book from Hajime's lap. "This book is very important to you, since you are connected to it. It's practically your life force. Because I take upon the human form of your guilt from your past life, I AM the book. If I die, you die along with me." He finished. "Understood?"
"Will you let me go now?" Hajime choked out.
"Let you go? What for?" Izuru narrowed his eyes. "So you can run away from all this? That's not going to happen."
"Then what's your reason for keeping me here?" The brunette asked, still confused.
"Because I'm your guilt. I'm the one who makes you feel like the one who should be blamed for everything. For your friends' deaths. For your village's demise. And besides, if I let you go, He'll find you anyways."
"He? Who's He?"
Izuru stared blankly at Hajime.
"Your little lover from your past life. Ko. Does that ring a bell?"
"You're keeping me away from him? But... why?"
"You still don't understand, do you?" Izuru clicked his tongue. "He's from your past life. He's the only friend of yours who was bound to your book. He was reincarnated along with you."
The brunette opened his mouth to fire another question, but the black haired boy stopped him.
"The only reason why you're alive is because of the book. Think about it. How does the book manage to keep you, Ko, and I alive at the same time?"
The gears in Hajime's mind turned.
Makoto, Celestia, Kirigiri, Togami, Toko. They were all fictional characters of the book.
No.
Wait.
If this was his life force, and the people he met were so called fictional characters....
He gasped sharply suddenly, but started coughing when something sharp jabbed him in the ribcage.
"Do you understand now?"
Hajime's breathing was ragged.
"Your little Ko and all the other characters in the book aren't actually fictional characters. They're souls."
~
They were souls. They were dead. The only reason why he was alive was because the book took in DEAD people and transformed their souls into his life force. Ko was dead. The albino wasn't even alive in the first place.
