Chapter 13

Scott's POV

"Ryder, this is too dangerous, it could kill you." I explained. He shook his head. "I don't care, I want to save a life, not watch it end, because of my stupid idiot of a brother." He said. "Ryder, you have saved lives. Six of them to be exact." I said. "I'm gonna do it, and you won't stop me." He said. I sighed. "I don't want to watch both you and Cora die, just because you don't want to be an alpha. We'll figure out another way." I practically begged. "Please Scott, just let me. If it works and it saves her, then I'll be in your pack." He said. "You don't have to be a beta to be a part of my pack." I explained. "Scott, you can't talk me out of it ok, shut the blinds on the windows, please." He begged. I sighed, but nodded, realizing that I can't win this battle. I turned and shut the blinds. I turned back to him and he was getting ready to grab her hand. "You don't know what my last name is, do you?" He asked. I shook my head. "No, why, what is it?" I asked. He grabbed her arm in both of his hands, and black veins grew on both of his arms and they transferred to her. He looked at me with his eyes glowing red and he struggled to keep composure, but the pain and pressure forced him to throw his head back. "McCall!" He growled. My eyes grew wide. I froze trying to take that in. He's related to me? How is that even possible? Is he my brother? Cousin? I desperately needed to know, but now I could easily lose him, and Cora, I thought to myself. I so badly wanted to run and stop him from doing this, but how do I know that stopping him won't kill him, I wasn't about to risk that.

Within a minute he let go and fell to the floor. I ran to him as fast as possible and knelt down beside him. He was still breathing, but it was slower. I grabbed him and slid him up against the wall. I tried hard to get him to open his eyes, but it was no use. I sat listening to his heartbeat intently. So intently that I didn't hear movement coming from the bed behind me. "Scott?" A soft voice said behind me. I whipped my head around to see Cora sitting up in her bed, rubbing her eyes. I stood up and went to her bedside quickly. "Cora! You're ok!" I said, cheerfully. She looked up at me and smiled. "What happened?" She asked. "Do you remember anything?" I asked. She shook her head. "All I remember was a sharp pain in my back, and an agonizing pain in my shoulder." She explained. "You were stabbed in the back by an alpha's claws, and he bit you on the shoulder. You were dying." I explained. She furrowed her eyebrows. "If I was dying, why am I still here, and who is that kid?" She asked. I glanced at Ryder, who still sat unconscious. "His name is Ryder, he did the same thing Derek did to save your life." I said. "He was an alpha?" She asked, confused. I nodded. "Why did he give up being an alpha to save me?" She asked. "Because the alpha that attacked you, was his brother, he killed his brother to save us all." I explained. She nodded and started to get out of bed. "Woah, what are you doing?" I asked. She glared at me. "I'm not helpless anymore Scott. Besides I want to wake him up before a nurse comes in to see me fine and him knocked out on the floor." She said sarcastically. I rolled my eyes and as I started to get up to follow her the door opened, making Cora and I both freeze. We let out a sigh of relief when Malia walked into the room. She froze when she saw Cora. "Did I miss something?" She asked. "Uh no, no nothing, you didn't miss anything." I said. She rolled her eyes at me and walked over to Cora. "Ok how is it that one minute you're on the verge of death, and the next you look perfectly fine?" Malia asked. Cora knelt down in front of Ryder. "Why is he here?" Malia asked me directly. Before I could answer, Cora spoke. "He saved me, that's why I look perfectly fine." Malia gave her a confused look. "How?" She asked. This time I answered her. "The same way Derek brought Cora back a while ago." I paused. "He gave up his alpha powers." I finished. Malia just nodded, not knowing what to say to that. "Scott grab me a bottle of water?" Cora suddenly asked. I nodded, and quickly walked out of the room to a vending machine right across the hall. I grabbed the bottle from the bottom, and quickly went back into the room, handing Cora the bottle. She opened it and put it to Ryder's mouth. I kneeled down beside Cora and watched as she poured a tiny bit of water into his mouth. He instantly started coughing, and Cora put the bottle on the floor beside her. Ryder slowly opened his eyes, blinking a few times. When he saw Cora he sat up a little. "It worked?" He croaked, enthusiastically. Cora and I both smiled and nodded. I didn't want to bring up the thing he said earlier until he and I were alone, besides it doesn't seem like he remembers much about before. Cora and I began to stand up, pulling Ryder up with us. I gave him a good pat on the back, and Cora hugged him, and thanked him. Suddenly my mom walked in and gave me a confused look. "Uh mom do you remember a while ago when Cora was extremely sick, and Derek gave up his alpha powers to save her?" I asked. She slowly nodded, a little in shock seeing Cora looking good and alive. "Ya well it happened again, so we need your help." I said. She took a step forward. "What can I do?" She asked. "We need to keep Cora a secret from Derek, because its not the right time to explain to him about Ryder. Once she's cleared to leave Ryder and I will take her back to the loft. Malia will pretend Cora is still here. If Derek finds out about Ryder, there might be bloodshed, which we don't need here." I explained. My mom nodded. "I'll go get the release papers for Cora to sign, by the way Stiles is awake, and he's already being released." She said. I nodded as she walked out of the room. I then turned to Malia, Ryder, and Cora. "Ok Ryder, I'm gonna go check on Stiles. When Cora is released, do not walk by Allie's room, go back past Stiles' room and come in the same way you came in and meet me by the Camaro, ok?" I asked. He nodded, and I turned to quickly walk back to Stiles' room.
